In a lame attempt to rival the Affliction Banned debut, UFC president Dana White put on a lack luster mixed martial arts fight card that headlined pound for pound best fighter in the world Anderson Silva who moved up to the 205 UFC light heavyweight division for the first time to fight James Sandman Irvin.
This event started out with disgraced TUF reality show fighter Jesse Taylor fighting the person who replaced him in the finale. CB Dolloway who looked like a white belt in the finale versus Amir Sadollah for his first and only MMA sanctioned victory. Dana White was forced to bring in Taylor for this fight because he needed a marketing angle for this UFC Fight Night. The fight was amazing as CB Dolloway used superior wrestling skills to overwhelm Taylor until he caught Jesse Taylor with a Peruvian Neck Tie submission. Taylor looked like a very one dimensional fighter.
Kevin Burns came out very aggressive on Anthony Johnson as both fighters came out swinging. In the third round Burns pokes Johnson in the eye and than lands an upper cut than send Johnson down. Kevin Burns wins with a TKO victory in a controversial fight.
This was Hermes Franca’s first fight since he was caught with steroids after his fight with Sean Sherk at UFC 73 - Stacked and he was taking on Frank Edgar. Edgar used his aggressive style of fighting and ground and pound to control most of the fight. With the win Edgar puts himself in line for a shot at the UFC lightweight title.
On a 2 fight losing streak Brandon Vera came in to fight hard hitting good wrestler Reese Andy. Vera imposed his all round skill to confuse Andy with a unanimous decision and very boring victory over a person he should have beaten easily.
In a fight that couldn’t come too soon as the UFC event was basically a dud all evening, the Anderson Silva fight was the only saving grace of the night. Anderson Silva caught a leg kick by James Irvin and Silva sent a punch that rocked him to the ground and from there Silva landed some punches before it was stopped early in the first round. Basically Silva beat him like Irvin stole something from him.
The next UFC event will be UFC 87 Seek and Destroy with eh main event having the Georges St. Pierre fighting Jon Fitch for the UFC Welterweight title. Also former WWE fighter Brock Lesner will fight in front of his home town crowd in Minnesota.
