UFC Betting Review:

UFC 142 resultsThere is one thing you have to do when you fight Rousimar Palhares. You have to be a great grappler and you have to always watch your legs as Palhares will snatch it and rip it off. That’s exactly what he did when he fought Mike Massenzio. Palhares put on a nasty heel hook on Massenzio that must have shattered his knee as Massenzio has to tap out at 1:03 if the first round.

In the undercard fights Felipe Arantes, Ricardo Funch, Yuri Alcantara, Gabriel Gonzaga, Thiago Tavares and Edson Barboza won their fights. Highly touted MMA prospect Erick Silva lost his fight with Carlo Prater but that due to a disqualification with a blow to the back of the head.

At the UFC 142 weigh ins, Anthony Johnson failed to make the middleweight limit. Johnson came in 11 pounds over the 186 lb weight allowance, was fined 20 percent of his earnings and the bout will be contested at a catchweight of 197 lb. Johnson came into the fight a much much bigger fighter which was not fair in my book to Belfort who made weight. Johnson officially weighed in at 204.2 lb on fight day almost 2 weight classes about the middle weigh limit.

Making weight might be a lesson for Belfort as Johnson looked drained. Johnson is swinging and catches gets the top position on the ground and defending the ground and pound. Ponce the fight was stood back up Belfort lands a number of shots that send Johnson reeling and Belfort manages to get Johnson’s back in a body triangle. Belfort switches to a rear-naked choke and within seconds, Johnson is tapping to win in front of his home crowd at 4:49 of the first round and a lesson to Johnson to train properly and make weight.

The main event had Jose Aldo versus Chad Mendes. The fight did not last long as Mendes goes for a number of shots but they are all deflected by Aldo. After a number of shots Mendes finally gets Aldo down but he quickly pops back up. Mendes pushed Aldo back against the cage and Aldo goes for a left knee that lands on Mendes’ face and is out cold with just one second remaining, 4:59 of the first round.
