UFC Fight Goes Five Rounds an Instant Classic As Henderson Beats Shogun

UFC Betting Review:

The UFC 139 pay preview started off with a Stephan Bonnar versus Kyle Kingsbury. Bonner took it to Kingsbury all three rounds and won an easy three round unanimous decision. Two judges score the bout 30-27, while one submits a lopsided 30-25 card, all for the winner by unanimous decision, Stephan Bonnar.


Next up was Rick Story versus Martin Kampmann and both fighters put on a show as Kampmann messes up Stories face by the end of round one. Story landed more body shots but Kampmann was more active and accurate with his shots. One judge scores the bout 29-28 Kampmann; a second has it 29-28 Story. The third judge sees it 30-27 for the winner by split decision, Martin Kampmann.


Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles faced off and the winner would get a shot at Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight title. The first round was fast and furious but Faber won the round due to being more active. In the second round Faber lands a massive upper cut and grabs a guillotine and rolls Bowles as Bowles is forced to tap at 1:27 of the second round.

Wanderlei Silva faced off with Cung Le and right off the bat he lands a spinning back fist followed by a fury of punches then a spinning kick which lands on Silva’s shoulder. Near the end of the round Silva lands a shot that cuts Le but the round goes to Le.


In the second round Silva is stalking Le and rushes Le on the fence and hurts him with a right high kick, a vicious right hand and follow-up knees to the gut. Silva grabs the Thai plum, busting Le’s nose with a knee to the face. Le bounces off the cage and drives forward for a single-leg, and Silva socks him with a few hammer fists before referee Dan Stell steps in for the TKO stoppage at 4:49 of the second round leaving Le with a busted nose.

At the start of the main even Shogun rushes in and Henderson get a front head lock and gets out of the submission but emerges steady but bloodied around the left eye. Shogun lands an overhand right-left uppercut and Henderson looks to be in trouble after taking a right hook behind the ear.


The second round was fought in the clinch and with 40 seconds left and Shogun lands a wide right on Henderson who promptly replies with a combo to the head and body.


At the start of the third round Henderson unloads a few uppercuts in the clinch and than lands a right that sends Shogun down and Henderson pounces trying to finish him off. Exhausted Shogun gets out of danger and Shogun connects with another pair of punches before the end of the round.

At the start of the fourth round Shogun’s nose is a bloodied mess, his eyes swollen, but he keeps pushing forward. Shogun lands a big right hand and Henderson is running for an escape. Completely exhausted Henderson can barely punch now, his head hanging low and his hands by his waist. Rua gets a takedown in the middle of the cage and mounts Henderson, then takes his back as the round ends.


At the start of the fourth round Shogun’s nose is a bloodied mess, his eyes swollen, but he keeps pushing forward. Shogun lands a big right hand and Henderson is running for an escape. Completely exhausted Henderson can barely punch now, his head hanging low and his hands by his waist. Rua gets a takedown in the middle of the cage and mounts Henderson, then takes his back as the round ends.

At the fifth and final round, Rua is all over Henderson and gets mount and tries a arm-triangle choke. Henderson has nothing to offer from the bottom, and is just trying to survive. Rua finishes the fight in full mount.
In the end all three judges score the bout 48-47 for the winner by unanimous decision, Dan Henderson and Hendo moves on to fight Jon Jones for the title.
