Rashad Evans Stops Tito Ortiz in the Second Round
UFC 133 Play by Play
The UFC made its second trip to the City of Brotherly Love and the UFC pay per view started out with Rory MacDonald taking on a very dangerous Mike Pyle. Pyle was a good test for Rory who in our opinion will be the next UFC welterweight champion one day as he was able to manhandle Pyle with a barrage of punches in Pyle’s guard as referee Kevin Mulhall waves off MacDonald at 3:54 of the first round.
In Jorge Rivera’s first fights since Bisping he faced Cyprus fighter Constantinos Philippou. Both men are spent by the second round and Philippou gets an omoplata attempt but Philippou has having trouble finishing as the round ends. In the end Philippou was more dominate in the stand up and on the ground and pulled out a split decision victory.
The co-main event had Vitor Belfort facing the always entertaining Yoshihiro Akiyama. And as we said in our UFC matchup, Akiyama is too small to fight in the middleweight division. Facing a top level fighter like Belfort was not a good matchup as Belfort lands a left hand that bounces off Akiyama’s face as he goes down. Belfort then unleashing a flurry of lefts and Akiyama collapses face-first onto the canvas at 1:52 of the first round.
The main event would settle to see who would win as both Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz fought to a draw in their last MMA fight against each other.
Tito came into this fight a huge UFC betting underdog but has an impressive win over Ryan Bader just a little but over a month ago.
In the second round, both fighters come out and Ortiz grabs at a guillotine and pulls guard and it is tight and Evans barley gets out of it. From there Rashad moves to side control and than mount with a crucifix. As Evans lands punches that bloodies up Oritz, Tito manages to get out and attempts an arm bar but a loose one. Evans manages to stand up and lands and as Tito wall walks against the fence Evans lands a knee to the solar plexus that drops Ortiz. Evans lands another six or eight right hands and Dan Miragliotta steps in at 4:48 of round two to stop the fight.
