Canadians Do Well at UFC 129, GSP Wins Again
UFC 129 Play by Play
UFC 129 at Toronto shattered all UFC attendance records with over 55,000 people packed into the Rogers Center.
MMA in Canada has come along a long way as most of the Canadian fighters won their preliminary mixed martial arts fights. Pablo Garza put on an incredible flying triangle choke submission that will definitely be submission of the night and Canadian John Makdessi surprised many with a spinning back fist with a first round KO over Kyle Watson.
Almost all the Canadians won their UFC preliminary fight like John Makdessi, Jason MacDonald, Ivan Menjivar, Claude Patrick and Rory MacDonald wone their preliminary fights with Person and Yves Jabouin losing.
The only Canadian to lose in the preliminaries was Sean Pierson who realty has no buisnes fighting as he is way too old and has not enough talent in the UFC to compete especially against Jake Ellenberger who has way too much experience.
Rory MacDonald in my mind is the next best thing in MMA and might be a champion one day. He has a tough test against Nate Diaz but dominated the first two rounds by mixing up his striking combos with kicks and punches. In the third round MacDonald picked up and body slammed Diaz not once but three times like a rag doll.
MacDonald showed a very smart fight and controlled Diaz throughout the entire fight with an unanimous decision victory.
The pay per view start off with WEC fighter Ben Henderson facing against submission master and hometown fighter Mark Bocek. Bocek tried for numerous but Henderson fought off a lot of takedown attempts. Henderson gave some hard shots from the top and in the end Ben Henderson won a three round unanimous decision.
In Randy Couture’s last fight he fought Machida and like our MMA prediction Machida danced around and avoided Couture shot attempts. In the second round Machida did a front jump kick to the face which KO’ed Couture.
One of the worlds top pound for pound fighters made his UFC debt as Jose Aldo faced home town fighter Mark Hominick. Aldo dominated Hominick but seemed to fade by the second and third rounds but still controlled Hominick with takedowns and lower led kicks.
The main event had Georges St Pierre facing his toughest opponent to date in Jake Shields. For the first 3 round GSP controlled the fight with his jabs similar to his last fight with Josh Koscheck. In the third round GSP finally got a takedown near the end if the round.
