UFC Betting Review:

Jeremy Stephens unleashes a brutal KO victory over the sportsbook betting favorite Marcus Davis. The Irish Hand Grenade might be on the way out of the UFC as he his MMA game has not seemed to improve lately.

Another UFC undercard shocker was the once pound for pound candidate Mike Brown loses his UFC debut Diego Nunes who won a split decision victory. Brown who came on the scene with 2 wins over Urijah Faber has lost to top level opponents of late like Manvel Gamburyan and Jose Aldo.

Thiago Silva Brandon Vera Decision (Unanimous) 3 5:00
Brian Stann Chris Leben KO (Punches) 1 3:37
Frankie Edgar Gray Maynard Draw 5 5:00

In the pay per view card as we predicted in our MMA matchup report we said that Clay Guida would use his aggressive style and fasted paced fighting style to overwhelm Takanori Gomi as he was able to use the pressure to land a deep arm-in guillotine. Gomi has shown in the past that he has been susceptible to submission like when he was beat by Marcus Aurelio at Pride Bushido 10.

Once again the judges in the UFC have got it wrong. I thought Dong Hyun Kim won the first round but Nate Diaz won the second and third rounds. In the third round Diaz pushed Kim into the fence, kneeing Kim to the head and body. Kim goes for a throw, and Diaz smashes him with repeated right hands, drawing a roar from the crowd. Diaz looks for a takedown at the bell.

Diaz should have won that fight in my opinion like we stated in our UFC handicapping report.

Brandon Vera has had a lot of hype in the UFC and he has not lived up to the hype. He was once touted as a possible heavyweight and light heavyweight champion but he has failed to perform in either division and he may be out of the UFC as for 3 rounds he was punished by Thiago Silva. According to Compustrike data, Silva connected with 111 strikes to Vera's 35.

Chris Leben was basically knocked out on his feet as Brian Stann lands a huge right hook and Leben goes down. Stann than crushes him with a knee and the follow up punches before Josh Rosenthal stops the fight.

The main event was one of the best championship fights in some time. In the first round Maynard came out and out on a show. Maynard chased down Edgar and is all over him with punches. Edgar is desperate for a takedown, but Maynard is bashing him with rights and lefts. Maynard continues the assault while Edgar is able to defend just well enough to let Yves Lavigne let him continue. Edgar looked visibly shaking and was very luck to survive the round and Maynard scored a 10 to 8 round for sure.

Edgar rebounded to win most of the rounds and in the end the fight has been ruled a split draw. The official scores were 48-46 Maynard, 48-46 Edgar and a 47-47 draw.

An obvious rematch is in order

The next UFC will be UFC: Fight for the Troops 2, also referred to as UFC Fight Night 23 that will be held on January 22, 2011 at Fort Hood, near Killeen, Texas.
