UFC Betting Review:
The UFC has a big decision to make as there is virtually no buddy in the 155 pound division that can even compete with BJ Penn. For 5 rounds BJ Penn beat down Diego Sanchez until Herb Dean called the fight at 2:37 of the 5th round.
A durable Sanchez tries takedown after takedown, but he just can’t execute it. There was nothing Sanchez could do as BJ controlled the stand up with his jabs and nullified the takedowns attempts by Diego.
It was one-sided from the opening seconds, as Sanchez had no answers for Penn. The Hawaiian knocked Sanchez down in the fight’s opening seconds and nearly finished him in the first 45 seconds. After that, it was just a beatdown until the fight was stopped because of a massive gash on Sanchez’s forehead.
Tons of skill, but no work ethic. That perfectly describes Wilson Gouveia who was KO’ed by rising star Alan Belcher. Belcher has vastly improved his skills and has fought and beaten top quality guys. He is now on the radar amongst the UFC. Gouveia will make a fast exit out of the UFC as he was the -125 online betting favorite at most online sportsbooks. Another underdog fight was DaMarques Johnson +210| who beat betting favorite Edgar Garcia with a triangle choke. If you read our UFC betting blog we really recommended this bet. Meanwhile, Rousimar Palhares showed his grappling dominance with a beautiful hell hook over Lucio Linhares.
As for the main pay per view fights, Paul Buentello was bested by the 6 foot 11 inch Stefan Struve buy losing a majority decision. Kenny Florian proved too much for Clay Guida. Florian was able to out a severe cut on Guida on the hairline above his left ear from an elbow by Florian. In the second round, Florian follows a jab with a right hand and it connects clean on Guida’s chin. From there he hops on his back in search of a rear-naked choke. He secures it and Guida taps quickly at the 2:19 mark of round two.
Jon Fitch had a pretty tough time with Mike Pierce as it took him 3 rounds to beat Pacific Northwest wrestler. It was all Fitch in the first 2 rounds but in the third Pierce came on in the fights final moments and buckles Fitch’s. Pierce works the body and head with both hands, but Fitch survives to hear the horn. All three official judges see the bout 29-28 for Jon Fitch, who takes the unanimous decision but it was a good showing for Pierce.
If you read our UFC handicapping matchup report I hope you would have bet on Frank Mir. Basically, Cheick Kongo sucks. Basically Kongo is one dimensional. Mir even controlled the stand up Mir floors Kongo with a left hook lead. Mir, though, used his punching power to win the bout in just 72 seconds. Mir ducked under a Kongo right and then unloaded a huge left hand that sent Kongo to the canvas in a heap. Mir followed immediately and slapped a guillotine choke on Kongo. Mir tells referee Herb Dean that Kongo is out. Dean lifts the arm of Kongo to verify, and it’s confirmed. Frank Mir chokes Cheick Kongo out cold with a guillotine at 1:12 of the opening frame.
This was a lack luster UFC event and the rest of the event don’t look at that great either. The UFC needs to find more competition and put on better events

The next UFC event will be UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva that will be held on on January 2, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The main event will have a light heavyweight fight between Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva. Due to many injuries many fights have been called off and UFC matchmakers Joel Silva wil have to scrammble to get a full MMA card
