UFC 85: Bedlam

UFC Fight Results and Recap
UFC Betting Review:

UFC 85 BedlamThe UFC 85 preliminary fight has some very surprising results as TUF contestant Matt Winman shocked the world by KO'ing heavy Brazilian hitter Thiago Tavares. Another underdog pick was Kevin Burns submission victory over Brazilian fighter Roan Carneiro with a triangle choke. Burns replace Ryo Chonan and surprised everyone with a great victory over a high quality opponent. Burns was also credited for sumission of hte night. Both fighters were big online betting under dogs by most UFC betting sites.

The pay per view started off with Werdum as he looked very confidant coming into the ring as he was ready to make a mark into the heavyweight division. Vera came into the ring with full confidence as usually. Vera had a definite size advantage versus Werdum. At the start of the fight they clinched and Werdum caught a big right. Werdum shot in a got a take down with ease. After a ground and pound Vera got up ad started to dominate the stand up. Near the end of the round Werdum took Vera down again and got mount and pounded Vera out, which looked like another premature stoppage but Dan Miragliotta just like he did in his refereeing versus Kimbo Slice. As we predicted, in our MMA match up Werdum would win.

Nathan Marquardt came into the fight very confidant and looked real determined to make it back to fight Anderson Silva again but he has to fight a real tough Brazilian in Thales Leites. Surprisingly Nate the Great decided to stand and trade with Leites and he rocked Marquardt and got full mount. Nate got back to half guard and than got back to his feet. Near the end of the fight Marquardt rocked Leites with a right upper cut some punches and knee to the head. Close call to whom won the round. At the sound round Marquardt landed a illegal knee ad after he wanted to fight Herb Dean started the match again as Marquardt got a point taken away. Once fight resumed Marquardt shot in and took Leites down and started a brutal ground and pound. It looked like Marquardt broke Leites' nose. Once the third round started Marquardt took Leites down and Leites went for a triangle and omaplta and. Once Marquardt got out Herb Dean stopped the fighters for an illegal hit to the back of Leites head which was a miss call as it was to the side of the head not the back of the head. Marquardt again got a point deducted. The end of the third round ended with Marquardt with a pile driver, WWE style. Thales Leites won a split decision victory but those two points deducted cost Marquardt the fight.

The Irish Hand Grenade came out to a roaring ovation from the English crowd and once the fight started Swick used his kicks to back off Davis. Davis was able to take Swick down but Swick reverse ad got into Davis' guard. Swick peppered Davis throughout the first round in Davis' guard with elbows and punches. Swick easily wins round one as a lot of blood started to pour from Davis' face.

Davis came out in the second round aggressively but Swick countered with a great head kicks and again took Davis down. Swick finally passes Davis' guard and was in side control. The second round had Swick control Davis in the stand up clinch and on the ground. The third round was again controlled by Swick but he was deducted one point for holding the fence. Since he completely controlled the entire fight the one point deduction was not a factor. If you read our MMA match up we once again were right on in our MMA handicapping prediction.

Michael Bisping came into the fight with his fans in full support at the O2 Arena but Jason "Dooms" Day came out swinging but Bisping was able to take Day down. He started to land a vicious ground and pound attack and was in Day's side control and spun to full mount and pounded Day out in front of his fans. This was Bisping's best performance in the UFC to date and this makes his legitimate threat at 185 pounds.

Thiago Alves was unable to make weight as he weighted in at 174 pounds so this fight was reclassified at a catch weight fight but Hughes still wanted to fight. Alves would be assessed a fine for not making weight. Thiago Alves came into the fight pumped up while Matt Hughes came into the fight with his country music playing and he was calm as usual.

Matt Hughes tried to shoot in but was stuffed by Alves. Hughes than pulls guard and Alves gets out and stands up. Alves knees Hughes and cuts him but Hughes takes him down and gains side control. The end of the round had Alves hitting Hughes with three shots to Hughes' head from the standing guard. The second round starts off with a big knee by Alves. Alves than lands another vicious knee that KO’s Hughes badly. He is out cold and Alves wins this fight in the second round. Alves earns the biggest win of his MMA career but he came into this fight overweight.
