UFC 80: Rapid Fire

UFC Fight Results and Recap
UFC Betting Review:

BJ PennIt was a night of knockouts as UFC 80 Rapid Fire lived up to be quick and exciting as six out of the nines fights ended in knock out.

BJ Penn puts his money where his mouth is as his superior jujitsu skills were easily demonstrated as he disposed of Joe Stevenson with ease. Penn finally ended the one sided affair with a submission by rear-naked choke at 4:02 of the second round.Penn now becomes the interim UFC lightweight champion. BJ now sets his sights on Sean Sherk who got his title taken away due to a positive steroid test. BJ has talked a lot in the media about how he will take out Sherk and that his title was tainted due to his positive test for a banned substance. If you read our MMA fight preview you may well know we were bang on in this fight.

Also at the Metro Radio Arena in England Fabricio Werdum again KO’s Gabriel Gonzaga. Again this was called perfectly in our MMA match up betting report, as we felt that Gonzaga is a one fight wonder with one great fight against Cro Cop. Fabricio Werdum basically picked apart Gonzaga until the fight was stopped at 4:34 of the second round. Werdum now moves up the heavyweight division. It shows his first fight in the UFC octagon could be chalked up to the nerves or the Pride curse.

Again as we predicated Marcus Davis easily landed a beating on Jess Liaudin who had little defense against his power. Wilson Gouveia beat the hard hitting Jason Lambert by knocking the knock out specialist with a second round KO.

The upset of the night was Jorge Rivera knocking out Kendall Grove. The one time TUF winner got beat by the more experienced fighter. Grove was unable to use his size and reach and better jujitsu skills and Jorge pressed the attack against the younger less experienced fighter. The much talented hard hitting Dutch kick boxer Antoni Hardonk finally gets a win over Irish heavyweight Colin Robinson. Does Hardonk have what it takes to maintain being a top heavyweight in the UFC? Only time will tell.

Now that Penn won the interim UFC title, this paves way for an incredible grudge match, which is yet to be determined. Will BJ try to become both the lightweight and welterweight UFC champion at the same time?

The Next UFC is UFC 81: Breaking Point where Tim Sylvia will fight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for the Interim Heavyweight Championship. Also former WWE star Brock Lesnar will make his UFC debut against star Frank Mir.
