![]() UFC 77: Hostile TerritoryUFC Results and recap: Anderson Silva once again regains his UFC middleweight championship with a beating of home town fan favorite Rick “Ace” Franklin. Anderson’s deadly strikes and overpowering stand up just overwhelmed Franklin and he was able to dismantle Franklin until the fight was stopped in the second round at 1:07. If you read this UFC match, we were once again bang on in our MMA matchup predictions. Anderson Silva is the most dominate middleweight in the UFC and there is nobody that can compete with him in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. With Denis Kang, Paulo Filho, and Kazuo Misaki in other MMA organizations, the only real threst to him is Dan Henderson if he decides to move down to the middleweight divsion. As we predicted, Jorge Gurgel lost to Alvin Robinson. If you read this UFC matchup we were again bang on in our betting analysis. Jorge Gurgel’s BJJ skills are way overrated and he was dominated by Robinson on the ground. Gurgel is not a great fighter his BJJ skills are on par with a Gracie blue or purple belt at best. One fighter to look out for is BJJ specialist Demian Maia who has incredible skills on the ground as he dominated Ryan Jensen with a first round submission (Rear-Naked Choke). Even though Josh Burkman won his fight, he should have easily taken apart Forrest Petz. Burkman needs to work on all areas of his game as he was lucky to win a split decision. Tim Sylvia stays in the UFC heavyweight picture and might have a shot at repeating as three time UFC champion with the departure of Randy Couture. Sylvia used his 6-foot-8 frame and a 30-plus pound weight advantage to smother Vera into the cage fencing. Vera said he broke his left hand in the first round forcing him into an alternate game plan. By the third and final round, Sylvia found the range and peppered Vera with short punches and elbows. Sylvia won the fight but not in an impressive manner. So what now? Well Silva makes an argument for best pound for pound fighter in the world but the UFC needs to sign real competition in the middleweight division. What lies for Rich Franklin? We know he can't beat Silvia so does he retire? Well if he wants to continue to fight he will need to imprve his stand up and his grappling skills which are sub par as best. One thing is for sure the middlewieght division is wide open. For a number one challenger that is.
