UFC 76: Knockout

UFC Results and recap:

It was a shock for most mixed martial arts fans (but not us) as Chuck The Iceman Liddell lost his second straight fight against Keith the Dean of Mean Jardine. Jardine just beat down the former UFC light heavyweight champ as Liddel could not figure out a way to KO Jardine. Liddell was peppered with a barrage of kicks and punches throughout the three round fight. Jardine was able to change his game while Liddell consistently tried to throw looping hay makers. Liddell was caught with brutal leg kicks and other kicks that caught Chuck off center and made him keep guessing what would be thrown next.

After the fight Jardine was pleased with his performance and was quoted saying, "We knew that Liddell has one style and he sticks with one style. I knew that if I move and take some angles on him and keep my head moving going that I might have a chance to get to him. And that's what I tried to do for all three rounds." Again we predicted this UFC fight as we predicted that Jardine would defeat Chuck.

In what continues to be a constant shocker, another Pride fighter lost in the octagon as Forrest Griffin beat down one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world in Mauricio Shogun Rua who looked gased and overweight. He follows several other Pride fighters with disappointing UFC fights like Dan Henderson, Mirko Cro Cop, Heath Herring, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Kazuhiro Nakamura. Now that two reality show contestants beat some of the top lightweight fighters in the world, where does that put Griffin and Jardine in the top ten light heavyweight list?

Another TUF champion, Diego Sanchez lost to Jon Fitch. Fitch used his superior wrestling and incredible submission defense to survive several close chokes and joint-locks and take a split decision. We actually thought Diego won this fight due to more submission attempts while Fitch sprawled and defended. He was more aggressive and tried multiple maneuvers but I guess the judgers saw it differently even though our MMA matchup was bang on except for the final result.

So what is next in the UFC light heavyweight and welterweight division? Where does it leave Wanderlei Silva who was in line for a mega fight with Liddell. Due to his sad performance at UFC 71 and UFC 76, where does it leave him in the 205 pound divison.

The next mixed martial arts MMA event will be UFC 77: Hostile Territory will be held at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, October 20, 2007. The "Hostile Territory" moniker comes from the fact that Anderson Silva will defend his UFC middleweight title against Cincinnati-native Rich Franklin who will need all the help he can get from the home crowd in Ohio as will be a huge underdog in this fight. He last fight with Silva he got his face destroyed.

Also on the fight card will be former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia in his first fight back since losing his title to Randy Couture at UFC 68 in March fighting Brandon Vera, Stephan Bonnar vs. Eric Schafer and a middelwieght playoff fight between Yushin Okami vs. Jason MacDonald.

Kimbo Slice (-400) vs. Ken Shamrock (+320)
As a mixed martial arts purist I really want so badly for Ken Shamrock (26-13-2) to beat Kimbo Slice (3-0).However, Ken Shamrock is now 44 years old and has been knocked out in his last 5 fights and has only 2 wins in his last 9 fights...read more

Nate Diaz (-185) vs. Josh Neer (+155)
When it comes to fighting, Nate Diaz (9-2) has so many weapons and is better than Neer in almost every category. The online UFC betting lines at Bookmaker.com currently have Diaz as a -185 but I would have thought the sportsbook odds makers would have set the betting lines higher...read more
