Early UFC 105 Sport Betting Lines - Free MMA Picks

Posted on October 18th, 2009 in MMA Betting, MMA News, UFC Betting Matchups, UFC Odds by admin

With UFC 105 just a week away the early betting lines have been released by BetUS and there are dome great dog picks for this event. If you are a UFC bettor and like to pick favorites this MMA event is not for you. Just look at the main event fight. A former pound for pound fighter is now at +325. The co main event has a guy with only 6 MMA fights as a -300 while the MMA veteran opens up at +220

As a UFC bettor we can not pass up betting on Shogun who is a +325. Just 2 years ago he was the most feared fighter coming to the UFC. I think with some poor fights and some injury problems he gets good betting value. If you want to read our MMA free pick for this fight got to our UFC handicapping report.

Two other dog picks look great for the pickings. Cain Velasquez might still be too green to lump him in with the top heavyweights and his opponent Ben Rothwell is a dog bet at +220. Ill take the +220 bet for the veteran who have fought top level guys versus the guy who has not. Read the full UFC prediction for this fight.

No idea why Chael Sonnen +185 is the underdog in this fight but he is. Yushin Okami is a very slow starter and has not fought in almost a year. Those two combinations leads to a great value bet on the underdog. Read full UFC preview for this fight.

One dog bet to stay away from is Anthony Johnson. This guy has too much power in the stand up and Japanese fighters for some reason done do well in the octagon.

To view and bet on any of these early UFC 105 betting lines got to BetUS

Lyoto Machida -450
Mauricio Rua +325

Cain Velasquez -300
Ben Rothwell +220

Pat Barry -105
Antoni Hardonk -125

Yushin Okami -250
Chael Sonnen +185

Joe Stevenson -220
Spencer Fisher +175

Ryan Bader -500

UFC Fight Night 19 Diaz vs. Guillard Online Betting Lines

UFC Fight Night 19 Betting Lines

UFC fight night 19 bettingUFC Fight Night 19 Diaz vs. Guillard online betting lines have been put out by 5 Dimes and it will hold some very interesting fights for online UFC sports bettors. The event is to be held on September 16, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with the main event being Melvin Guillard versus Nathan Diaz  but for most MMA fans the best fight of the night will be Roger Huerta versus Gray Maynard.

Roger Huerta is going into this fight as a pretty big online betting underdog at +260. No idea why online sportsbook oddsmakers have Gray Maynard as such a high betting favorite but Huerta is a great underdog bet to make. His pressing style will confuse Maynard. I predict Huerta will win this fight with his pressure and fast paced attack. At +260 this is a great bet to make to win a lot of money.

Another great bet to make is the Phillipe Nover versus Sam Stout fight. Nover opens up at +165 and has great value against Stout who is a very one dimensional fighter. He has no ground game and relies on his striking. Nover is a very well rounded fighter that can win this fight either in the stand up or on the ground. Nover can hold his own on the stand up and he will be able to take Stout to the ground and submit him. Stout is very overrated as a fighter and Nover will expose his ground game.

Tim Credeur comes into his fight with Nate Quarry as a huge betting dog at +210. Nate Quarry is so over rated. Credeur is a black belt level fighter and Quarry has no ground game and marketing more so as a fighter than his skill dictates. Bet heavily on this underdog fight.

For all UFC Fight Night 19 see the betting lines below which are provided by 5 Dimes

Brian Stann  +235
Cantwell  -275

Carlson Gracie List of Black Belts

Posted on August 21st, 2009 in MMA News, MMA training by admin

Carlson Gracie Black Belts list

Carlson Gracie, Sr. (August 13, 1935 – February 1, 2006)

Carlson Gracie SrThe Carlson Gracie system is know to be the best transition to MMA and his brand of juijitsu favored a ‘warrior style’ of Jiu-Jitsu that encouraged physical prowess and barraging your opponent with a series of attacks which was distinct from that being taught by Helio which focused on emphasized technical proficiency.

Carlson opened up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to the masses, and the masses responded, hungry to learn everything they could while Helio Gracie’s academy taught only the most basic positions to outsiders, reserving the advanced positions for the family elite.

Carlson reigned as world champion for thirty years covering the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s and to this day his brand of jiu-jitsu is the most aggressive and is considered the best form of jiujutsu to this day.

This Black Belts was the last one updated by Carlson Gracie himself. Notice that he signaled the guys that he had expelled but he hadn’t taken out their names from the list so anyone claiming to be a black belt directly under Carlson Gracie must be on this list or else is not telling the truth. The highest ranking black belt under Carlson Gracie is Marcus Soares at 7th degree black belt.

MMA Training Tips - Blowing Through Sticking Points

Posted on March 5th, 2009 in MMA News, MMA training by admin

BLOWING THROUGH STICKING POINTS

promo/ufc

Bet the UFC at BetUS.com

I first truly realized how powerful drills can be about 15 years ago.

At that time I was I was teaching a self defense class.  I had a student of average size and strength with severely below-average punching power.  He was a chronic “arm-puncher,” which means he just couldn’t get his body behind his punches to make them powerful. I tried explaining how to use his body.  I tried showing him.

Nothing helped

Finally I grabbed a heavy medicine ball and stood back-to-back with him.  From that position we passed the medicine ball around and around, first in one direction, then in the other.  To do this drill you really have to twist your upper body, which is quite similar to the movement required to punch properly.

A few minutes later, when I put the focus mitts on again, I was shocked at the difference in his punches. He finally started moving his body properly, and punch after punch thudded into the target.

His miracle cure was a single drill.

Sometimes you can have the same miracle cure for grappling problems.

If someone is having a rough time with a technique, it’s often because they’re having trouble with a certain aspect of the technique - a movement or transition that their body just doesn’t want to do (yet).   If this is the case, then isolating that movement and training it often goes a long way towards solving the problem.

Here’s a concrete grappling example.  Last year I wrote about a ’secret’ of the Half Guard, about destabilizing your opponent by bringing your knees up to your chest.  (If you don’t remember this tip, you can read it again at the url below.)

www.grapplearts.com/2008/05/half-guard-secret.htm

Some people have a hard time getting this movement - maybe it’s because bringing both knees up to one’s chest explosively is just not a ‘natural’ movement.

So here’s a simple solo drill that I’ve found helps people to understand this movement, and then later apply it in grappling

1 - First lie stretched out on your back, with your arms and legs extended in a straight line

2 - Then QUICKLY bring your knees to towards your chest and slap the bottom of your feet.

3 - Then recoil back to the starting position and repeat.

It’s a little bit harder than it sounds, so start with about 20 repetitions.  For maximum benefit keep the following points in mind

A - Pull your knees up to your chest EXPLOSIVELY.  This is NOT a slow leg-lift type of exercise.

B - Touch the bottoms of your feet with your hands to make sure that you’ve pulled your legs up far enough.

C - Remember what this is for; as you’re doing the exercise visualize trapping one of your opponent’s legs between your legs.  Imagine pulling him over you and getting underneath his center of gravity every time.

This movement resembles an abdominal exercise, but don’t let that fool you.  It’s true that it does challenge and strengthen your muscles, but that’s only a side benefit. It’s main purpose is to put a killer edge onto a very sports-specific movement.

Think about the sticking points in your techniques that bother you. Then find, modify or invent grappling drills to make that sticking point a thing of the past.

P.S. Check out my blog tomorrow - I’ll post this tip AND add a few photos to illustrate the exact exercise I’m talking about.

P.P.S. There are several resources you can consult for more information on sports-specific exercises.  I put my favorite drills onto DVD a few years ago, and there are also some free BJJ drills online.  Check out both resources by going to

UFC 95 full online sportsbook lines and props

Posted on February 19th, 2009 in MMA Betting, MMA News, UFC Betting Matchups, UFC News, UFC Odds by admin

UFC 95 bettingUFC 95 full online sportsbook lines and props by 5 Dimes have just been released. 5 Dimes is the only online sportsbook that offers great mixed martial arts betting proposition bets.

This UFC fight card the money line odds are not worth betting but there are some interesting props bets that minimize the investment. For example if you think Demian Maia  will win the fight -265 is not worth the bet but wagering on Maia to win by inside the distance  -150 is a much better bet to make. If you read our MMA matchup report we suggested a Chael Sonnen upset at +225 but if you want to bet on him ot KO Maia within the distance it pays out  +436.

Also betting on Josh Koscheck to win is a no brainer but shelling out -515 to win 100 is not worth it. For the fight to not go the 3 round distance  at -170 is a much better bet to make than at -515.

The UFC betting lines are not the greatest for this event but one fight the staff do like is the Rory Markham fight at -120. He has very good odds and you will not have to bet a lot to win.

For all UFC 95 odds check the lines out below.

Posted on February 7th, 2009 in MMA Betting, MMA News, UFC Betting Matchups, UFC News, UFC Odds by admin

UFC Fight Night 17 betting odds are out and you can bet UFC parlays and UFC prop bets at 5 Dimes.com

Best bet of the night is the Luigi Fioravanti  vs Anthony Johnson  fight. Johnson is a -350 and mostly because of his fight where he KO’ed Kevin Burns at the TUF 8 Finale. Belvie me Luigi Fioravanti  is a very good fighter that can take Johnson to the ground where he is very weak.

At +260 at most sportsbooks this is a fight the odds maker got way off. Fioravanti  has fought top level competition like Jon Fitch and Diego Sanchez while Johnson has fought no one.

Another great bet to make that our staff recommends is for Mac Danzig to beat Josh Neer. Neer is tough and a game fighter but Danzig is smart and will win this fight on the ground.

UFC 94 Salaries and Payouts

Posted on February 4th, 2009 in MMA News, UFC News by admin

UFC 94 Salaries

UFC 94I see their payouts as particularly low for the “biggest fight in UFC history”. With all the hype that went into this match, I’m very surprised at how low the salaries are for Penn and GSP. How can both fighters make so littel comparableto how much the UFC made on the pap per view. Penn only get $125,000? That isn’t right. His and GSP’s fame/talent are what sold most of the pay-per-views and the gate, so unless they get a % of the PPV’s.

Salaries for UFC 94 main event winner Georges St. Pierre led the way with a $400,000 payday while TUF alum Matt Arroyo brought up the rear with $8,000. The total discloses salary total for UFC 94 was $1,057,000. UFC 94 attracted a sell-out crowd of 14,885 for an estimated live gate of $4.3 million.

Not withstanding the Pay per view numbers nad merchandise sales which will put the total profit for the UFC above 300 million by most estimates.

Here are the complete figures according to MMAWeekly.com:

  • Georges St. Pierre: $400,000 ($200,000 to show plus $200,000 to win)
  • Lyoto Machida: $185,000 ($60,000 to show; $60,000 to win; and $65,000 for “Knockout of the Night”)
  • B.J. Penn: $125,000 (would have earned an additional $125,000 had he won)
  • Clay Guida: $105,000 ($20,000 to show; $20,000 to win; and $65,000 for “Fight of the Night”)
  • Nate Diaz: $85,000 ($20,000 to show and $65,000 for “Fight of the Night”;would have earned an additional $20,000 had he won)
  • Karo Parisyan: $80,000 ($40,000 to show and $40,000 to win)
  • Chris Wilson: $80,000 ($15,000 to show and $65,000 for “Fight of the Night”; would have earned an additional $15,000 had he won)
  • John Howard: $71,000 ($3,000 to show; $3,000 to win; and $65,000 for “Fight of the Night”)
  • Jon Fitch: $68,000 ($34,000 to show and $34,000 to win)
  • Thiago Silva: $29,000 (would have earned an additional $29,000 had he won)
  • Akihiro Gono: $28,000 (would have earned an additional $28,000 had he won)
  • Dong Hyun Kim: $26,000 (would have earned an additional $26,000 had he won)
  • Thiago Tavares: $26,000 ($13,000 to show and $13,000 to win)
