Maynard has scores to settle

Gray Maynard isn't about to get bored by meeting the same fighter for a third time.

Maynard, who challenges Frankie Edgar for the lightweight championship in Houston next week, is lacking no motivation.

Though Edgar has been saying he is tired of the build-up to his third meeting with the Las Vegas fighter, Edgar has been unable to settle since their second bout ended in a draw at UFC 125 in January.

The pair will lock horns at UFC 136, where Maynard aims to win for the second time. He won via unanimous decision the first time, at UFC Fight Night 13, three years ago. Those following the live in-play betting will be hoping for a close contest.

"Usually after you're done, you take a nice little trip to wherever," Maynard told the Las Vegas Sun.

"Go to a cool place, have some beers and do a lot of media. For me, it's just been 'how do I train for this?' This is all I've cared about."

The rivals were due to meet at UFC 130, but both were injured in the lead-up and the bout was scratched.

"My emotions haven't changed towards him," Maynard said. "It's just about what happened and how it played out. I want to get what I deserve. That's the belt."

Maynard believes he deserved to win their last fight, and he had been prepared for a May rematch even though he had nagging injuries.

He has had a minor scope procedure on his elbow, and feels fine now. Those placing online bets may want to bear this in mind though.

He says when he got back into the gym, he found it easier to prepare for Edgar than either of the first two camps.

Maynard says he knows he will beat Edgar. In his opinion, it will be for the third straight time.

"I'm in there for the moment," he said. "For me, a draw is almost like a loss. He has the belt and I've been pumped ever since to get back in there."
