Bonnar Looking for Dream Fight

Stephan BonnerEven before his bout with Kyle Kingsbury on Saturday, Stephan Bonnar was leaving people in no doubts that he had one fight on his mind and that he was already looking forward to a possible showdown with Rampage Jackson, something reflected in the online bets.

Bonnar was the massive favourite going into his fight with Kingsbury at UFC 139 and after another convincing win, his mind was already drifting to trying to arrange the fight with one of the light-heavyweight divisions all time greats.

The 34-year-old looked a class act agaisnt Kingsbury in the opening fight of the pay-per-view event in San Jose, California, taking a unanimous pints verdict by 30-25 over the three rounds, including a pair of 10-8s.

Perhaps most impressive of all was that he didn’t pick up a single injury in the fight meaning he has only been handed a one-week medical suspension by the California State Athletic Comission.

For so-long Jackson has been the poster boy for UFC but after years of dominating the light-heavyweight division, he appears to have lost focus on the sport and has branched out into other areas as his fame has continued to grow. This included a starring role as B.A. Baracus in the 2010 re-make of the 1980s series ‘The A-Team’ as well as numerous appearances on chat shows and other TV programmes.

Jackson has lost two of his last four fights and was forced to submit by Jon Jones last time out. Despite this, he is still seen as the man to beat in the division with many pundits saying a fighter’s c.v. is incomplete without a victory against the 33-year-old. It would certainly be exciting for live in-play betting.

Both parties are thought to be positive about the possibility of a match between Bonnar and Jackson with the 31-year-old himself saying that his prospective opponent had sent him a text message congratulating him on the win and saying that he would like to fight him.

Bonnar maintains that it would be a dream come true to find himself uop against such a legend of the sport and believes he would have an excellent chance of beating the man from Memphis.

"That's my dream fight," Bonnar told HeavyMMA on Thursday in San Jose. "He's good, he's a big puncher, he's tough. But he does have holes in his game. He's really famous. 'The A-Team' movie, talk shows – everyone knows who he is.

Fighting him, it's going to be a huge fight. Forrest (Griffin) got a close win over him, (Keith) Jardine fought a good fight with him. I feel like I could fight him good”.
