This is will be great technical welterweight bout match on the ground, as two great Brazilian jujitsu black belt fighters will square off in the UFC octagon. Roan “Jucao” Carneiro (11-6) was barely beating Jon Fitch in their last fight. He was dominating the top position and had him in danger of a lot of submissions. If it wasn’t for a mental mistake he would have won that fight against Fitch.

Tony DeSouza (10-3) has not fought in over a year as he has been helping out BJ Penn in the Ultimate Fighter Series. His last fight was against Thiago Alves at UFC 66 - Liddell vs. Ortiz II where he was KO'ed.  DeSouza is a great technical fighter but his inactivity from pro fighting will play a roll against a very dangerious fighter in Carnerio. He has not fought a lot of top level opponents in the past except for a win over Luiz Azeredo but he has at least 20 pounds on Azeredo.

DeSouza is a very great technical fighter and coach but sometimes this does not translate into being a fighter. Carneiro is a Brazilian Top Team fighter so he rolls with some of the toughest guys in the world and he has fought high level competition in the past like Anderson Silva, Ryo Chonan and Jon Fitch. Roan “Jucao” Carneiro has above average striking skills and DeSouza has a weak chin. If Carneiro lands flush he will KO DeSouza who has a weaker stand up game.

Bottom Line: DeSouza’s game plan will be to take him down and submit Carneiro down. Both of them have great Jujitsu skills but DeSouza’s BJJ will not over power Carneiro game so the fight will be won in the stand up and Carneiro has a very big advantage in this category.

Both fighters are complementary and each will neutralize each others fight game but this fight will be won on the takedowns and striking.

Carneiro wins a three round decision over DeSouza
