No idea why this fight is in the preliminaries and will not be seen on pay preview but this fight will challenge for fight of the night. Both of these mixed martial arts fighters have incredible stand up skills and a very solid ground game
Chris "Lights Out" Lytle (24-14-5) is a very well rounded fighter that has great fundamental boxing skills and was the 175 lb Indiana state boxing champion. He stand up is technically sound and he has a lot of power due to the fact that he can generate great hip movement with his hooks. He has a quick boxers jab and fast right hook.
Most people think that Lytle is only a stand up fighter buy he has a great ground game and at UFC 73: Stacked he pulled off one of the best submission is have ever seen on Jason Gilliam with an Inverted triangle choke and keylock. He is very powerful and strong for a fighter and he has a full time job as a fire fighter that lets him be at tip top shape throughout the year.
Lytle has fought some of the best the UFC has to offer and lost to Matt Hughes, Matt Serra, Karo Parisyan, and Shonie Carter but always by decision. This shows that Lyltw can compete and has the cardio and experience to compete with Alves who is a rising star. Lytle is a seasoned veteran and will not let Alves over power him.
Thiago “Pitbull” Alves (12-3) is a very tough fighter out of the American Top Team ATT camp. He is called the pit bull because of his fighting style. Alves will rush in press the action in most of his fights. He has the power to swarm in and take an opponent down with the ground and pound and either get a TKO or submit his opponent. He has losses to Jon Fitch at UFC - Ultimate Fight Night 5 and Spencer Fisher at UFC - Ultimate Fight Night 2. Alves needs to prove that he can step up to the next level and Lytle is too experienced of a fighter to fall into Alves game plan.
Bottom Line: Both Lytle and Alves have fast strong hands and this should great fight in the stand up. Lytle has more speed and technique but Alves has way more power. On the ground both are equal but I give the slight edge to Lytle in technique. This will be the fight of the night but I have to give this fight to Lytle who is more experienced and slightly better in all categories than Alves is.
Look for a 3 round decision by Lytle
