Kendall
“Da Spyder” Grove takes on Patrick “The Predator”
Cote in a battle of the Middleweights. Kendall rose to fame
by winning The Ultimate Fighter 3 TV show. The 6’6”
185lb Hawaiian has a serious height advantage over his opponents.
You wouldn’t want to get caught with your head down around
this guy. Grove was asked what his favorite technique was, and
he replied “To stand and brawl – I love it”.
Da Spyder’s last opponent was Allen Belcher in UFC
69, in which Kendall choked out Belcher in the second
round for the win. Before that it was Chris Price in Ortiz vs.
Shamrock 3. Grove won by submission in the first round by repeated
punches to the head. Perhaps Groves best fight, possible the
fight of the year, was for the finale of the TV series. Grove
fought Ed Herman in a three round face bashing, all out knuckle
busting fight of all fights. Kendall Grove is a fighter that
doesn’t stop until the fight stops or his opponent is
down.
His opponent is Patrick Cote, the 5’11”, 185lb from
Quebec, Canada. Cote is a knock-out puncher who took Tito Ortiz
to a three round decision in UFC
50, only to lose. He’s got great submission
skills and lots of experience behind him. He can go three rounds
no problem; in fact he’s never lost by knock-out. His
last four loses; two were submission, one split and one unanimous
decision. Asked what his favorite techniques were he replied
“One punch knockout, Kimura and the rear naked choke”.
Unfortunately his last win, in UFC
67, against Scott Smith was a bore. The fighters
didn’t do much except throw some kicks and punches that
didn’t do any real damage. There was a lot of clinching
going on. Cote ended up getting the win by decision, giving
him his first win in five fights. He’s not much of an
attacker and he’s average on the ground.
Bottom Line: Kendall Grove is going to pound
Patrick Cote or submit him. He’s got height, strength
and speed. Grove is a pressing fighter that is constantly engaging
the action, something that Cote wasn’t doing in his last
fight. Grove’s also got the punching power to hit down
on opponents and bring his knees up into his challengers face.
He can do all of this constantly for three rounds no problem.
Kendall
Grove for the win!
