Can someone please tell me when Phil “The New York Bad Ass” Baroni (10-7) became an elite mixed martial arts fighter? Sportsbook odds makers are probably looking at Frank Shamrocks last lost to Renzo Gracie as the reason why he is considered an underdog in this MMA event. Well he was never in trouble in that fight and lost by disqualification or maybe odds makers are thinking that Frank’s brother Ken is the one fighting at EliteXC on June 22, 2007.

Whatever the case, take this bet and bet big because the last I remember is that Frank Shamrock is a mixed martial arts legend who created the UFC light heavyweight division and he is fighting a MMA fighter who has a record of 10 and 7 who has lost to Kazuo Misaki, Ikuhisa Minowa, Pete Sell, Evan Tanner twice and Matt Lindland twice. Baroni is known for being a devastating striker with no ground game and not much stamina. His body type is more like a bodybuilder’s body. Though Baroni body looks good he gases out easier due to his wide body frame. Also he has those bodybuilder arms and if you put him in a kimura he will tap easily.

Baroni is a personality. He is outspoken, funny, cocky and very arrogant. That would save him once he climbs in a cage with Shamrock. Shamrock on the other hand is 21-8-1 who has beaten the legendary Bas Rutten, Tito Ortiz and Jeremy Horn. Frank is the only undefeated UFC champion who never lost his title in the UFC.

When it comes to ground skills there is no question as to who has the advantage. Frank Shamrock is so good on the ground that once he takes Baroni down it will be over in a matter of seconds.

Despite Baroni’s power he does not have the speed in his punches to land and all Frank will do is clinch and take Baroni down. Shamrock will use inside and outside leg kicks to back off Baroni before he shoots in for a take down.

Bottom Line: Bet on the MMA legend who is a complete fighter? Baroni is a great personality but is a one dimensional fighter with no skills except his punching ability.

If a mouth made money, Baroni would win hands down but look for an arm bar in the first round by Frank Shamrock
