Tim Sylvia

UFC 65: Bad Intentions
Tim Slyvia versus Jeff Monson
Saturday November 18th, 2006
Tim Sylvia -300
Bet It Now at BetUS.com

This Saturday UFC 65: Bad Intentions will be held. In Tim Sylvia's first defense after winning back the heavyweight title he will facing Jeff Monson. Technically, Sylvia is not that strong of a fighter and is prone to submissions. His only 2 loses have come in the way of submission. Sylvia does possess a strong punch and being 6 foot 8 and 260 pounds it will be hard for Monson to take him down. Monson is a very accomplished wrestler and has great take down ability, but Sylvia will back up and jab and wait to throw the right cross.

Bottom Line: Too much power for Sylvia and Monson has not faced the quality opponents that Sylvia has faced.

First round KO

Aside from the Welterweight division there is no better fighters in the world than the Pride FC fighters. The UFC traditionally wants to please their audience and schedule fighters that are more bangers and less skilled. Dokonjonosuke Mishima is not well known in North America but he he has fought in some of the best organizations in the world like Pride Bushido, Shooto, Deep and Hook and Shoot.

Mishima comes from the famous Cobra Kai MMA Dojo in Japan and is well versed in submissions. He will be facing Joe Stevenson, a season 2 winner in the Ultimate Fighter Reality show. Stevenson is excellent on the ground but lacks the expertise that Mishima has. Dokonjonosuke Mishim also has better stand up skills while Stevenson was exposed recently on his stand up skills in his lose to Josh Neer.

Bottom Line: Sportsbook odds makers have Stevenson as a favor due to the fact that he beat Yves Edwards and Mishim lost to him. In MMA each fight is different and Stevenson only won the fight due to doctor stoppage, otherwise the match was quite even at that point. Until Stevenson fights a Gracie, Marcus Aurelio or Takanori Gomi like Mishim has he will not move up skill wise. Even though Mishim is better on the ground he will try to keep this fight standing. If they go to the ground watch out for a great display of ground skills.

Dokonjonosuke Mishima wins in a technically great fight by decision

Brandon Vera

UFC 65: Bad Intentions
Brandon Vera versus Frank Mir
Saturday November 18th, 2006
Brandon Vera -320

Bet it now at BetUS.com

Brandon Vera will be the next UFC heavyweight champion. In the mean time he will be facing Frank Mir this Saturday. Just 3 years ago Frank Mir was considered to be the next great heavyweight champion. However, his lack of cardio and training has dropped his stock significantly.

Also Mir got into a bad motorcycle accident last year and has been on the comeback. His last UFC fight against Dan Christison was almost embarrassing. He came into that fighting way out of shape and won by decision. The old Frank Mir would have destroyed him. Mir will be in much better shape this Saturday but his lack of cardio has always plagued him. Mir's skills are incredible but he has to show people he can go 3 full rounds. Vera on the other hand is what Mir was 3 years ago. He is hungry, in shape, skilled on the ground and his stand is vastly superior to Mir’s.

Bottom Line: This will be a great heavyweight Jujitsu match up (something you don’t see often). But Vera's has that something special and the drive to succeed that people have been wanting from Mir. Vera has openly stated that he wants to hold the light heavy weight and heavy weight title at the same time. You are not that cocky unless you can back it up.

Both have excellent ground games so Vera will win on the stand up
