Welterweight bout: Chris "Lights Outs" Lytle vs. Matt "The Immortal" Brown

There are some constants in the UFC, The UFC will continue to have one great fight with a bunch of crappy fights in their pay per views and they will continue to puts fighters that have no business being in the UFC like Matt "The Immortal" Brown (11-8).

He already lost to his opponent Chris "Lights Outs" Lytle (28-17) once already and he has barley improved his overall mixed martial arts game since than. At a United Fight League in Indianapolis, Lytle defeated Matt Brown by guillotine choke in the second round in 2007. Brown is an overrated fighter than honestly has no business being in the UFC. He is similar to Chris Leben. He has powerful punchers with a great heart to fight but little talent. Lytle has held championships in the Hook N' Shoot, Absolute Fighting Championship and Cage Rage World Welterweight Championship promotion while Brown has won nothing in his career.

No matter how untalented Brown is, he always comes out to fight. He will put in a 100% effort and he puts on good fights for the fans. He has little talent but he does put on a show which keeps him in the UFC. The bad thing is that Chris Lytle also is a fighter that leaves it on the table every time he fights. The difference is he is he has skill from all areas. He can strike; he has great technical striking, good grappling, and a solid wrestling base.

Lytle has won 4 consecutive UFC fight bonuses and a numerous array of fight bonuses over his entire career, including four fight of the night honors. Brown on the other hand is a game fighter but with little talent but this MMA matchup is something that would create a great fight.

The reason why Brown has not improved is because of his training. He trains with Jorge Gurgel and Rich Franklin. That is his first mistake. Jorge Gurgel is one of the worst trainers in MMA. He has a very suspect jiu-jitsu game and his lack of teaching shows in his fighters. If Brown is to improve he has to get away from Gurgel and move to a better camp. Though he now splits time training with Matt Hume in Seattle and at Throwdown Training Center in Las Vegas, NV he still is not a complete fighter.

Grappling wise Lytle is a very dynamic fighter. He has very good grappling and is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. He has already won 2 submission of the night honors with a Triangle Kimura over Jason Gilliam at UFC 73: Stacked and a Knee bar over Brian Foster at UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez. Lytle has also won submissions by Rear Naked Choke, Guillotine Choke, Bulldog Choke, Triangle Choke and Arm Triangle Choke which shows his range of submissions he has in his arsenal.

Brown is a blue belt in Jiujitsu under Jorge Gurgel. As already mentioned, Gurgel does not teach the basics like base and being tight on an opponent. Browns blue belt might not even be a legit blue belt and he might in all reality be a white belt. One thing about Brown is that he can not get out of submissions. In his 8 loses, 6 of them have come by submission. At this level in his career he needs to work on submission defense but he is not skilled enough. He is still a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and under Jorge Gurgel who in my opinion is one of the worst BJJ coaches in the world.

Striking wise, Brown has more power in his punches and always has a punchers chance. One thing I do like about Brown is his heart. He has the power to KO anyone but his will have a hard time with Chris Lytle.

Lytle has great technical striking. He became the 175 lb Indiana state boxing champion and is a great technical striker. Brown on the other hand is a brawler and he will get picked apart by the professional striker. Being more technical, Lytle will see the looped and wide shots Brown throws at him. Also, Lytle will have great technical defense where he will have his hands up and against his chin down the whole fight. Brown will have a hard time hitting Lytle, who will have the technical ability to dismantle him.

Bottom Line: Yes Lytle has 17 loses in his MMA career but he has fought top level fighters and held his own. The C level fighters Lytle has faced he has beaten but he has problems with the top levels guys He has loses to Marcus Davis at UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson, Josh Koscheck at UFC 86: Jackson vs. Griffin, Thiago Alves at UFC 78: Validation, and Matt Hughes at UFC 68: Uprising.

Who has Brown fought? The only top level fight he has fought was Ricardo Almeida at UFC 111: St-Pierre vs. Hardy and he looked way over matched. UFC sports betting wise, Lytle should be a slight betting favorite. Brown will open up because he has power and he has put on good fights. But remember that was against average fighters and he has barley been able to beat them.

This fight will be a striking battle in the first round. Lytle will try to feel Brown out and get his timing and distance. In the second round, Lytle will start to takeover and get the takedown. Since Brown has little ability on the ground Lytle will be able to control and submit him since he has little or no idea what to do on the ground.

This is a perfect fight to bet on since the lines will be pretty close. Remember Lytle has 4x Fight Of The Night Honors, Knock Out Of The Night Honors and 2x Submission Of The Night Honors. He can grapple, wrestle and strike. What can Brown do for you? Nothing in this case.

Look for a Second Round Submission by Lytle
