Welterweight bout: Josh Koscheck (-270) vs. Paul "Semtex " Daley (+210)

I’m sorry but Paul “Semtex “ Daley (23-8) sucks. With not much left in the welterweight department the UFC is trying to market foreign fighters to the world. Paul Daley is Britan’s best prospect and that says little. British fighters have less skill, poor training and lack in just about every category in MMA that ones needs to learn.

England has a pretty good boxing history but they have no high school or college wrestling system, they have no high level judo, and have just recently brought in some good jujitsu schools like the Roger Gracie academy but they will start to produce fighters in about 10 years. England lacks quality MMA and trails most of the major countries like USA, Brazil, Japan, Russia, Holland and Canada.

Most British fighters are just brawlers and that’s about it. They have a history of pub fights and hooliganism. But street fighters are just thugs that throw punches. There is no great MMA fighter in Britain and there is likely none in the future.

One thing that English men do rate high in is premature ejaculation, poor diet, a very obese society and poor dental hygiene. Paul Daley is just about hype. He has very little talent and is backed by some heavy strikes. He is fighting a top 5 welterweight in Josh Koscheck (16-4).

In Koscheck’s last 9 UFC fights he has fought all top levels guys. He fought and went the distance versus the UFC welterweight champion Georges St Pierre at UFC 74: Respect. He fought a top level judo fighter in Yoshiyuki Yoshida at UFC: Fight for the Troops and beat the fastest rising striker young prospect in Anthony Johnson at UFC 106: Ortiz vs. Griffin 2. He also went the distance versus the hardest hitting170 pound fighter in the UFC in Thiago Alves at UFC 90: Silva vs. Côté and he took ever punch he had and was not even phased.

Daley is suppose to be a heavy striker but he does not have as much power as Jon Jones or Thiago Alves so what chance does Daley have.

Koscheck is an all star wrestler. During his Junior NCAA season, Koscheck won all 42 of his wrestling matches and went on to become the NCAA Division I Champion in the 174 lb weight class. He was a four-time NCAA Division I All-American (placing 4th, 2nd, 1st, and 3rd) and three-time recipient of the PSAC Wrestler of the Year award. Daley has no wrestling experience and has not accomplished no where near what Koscheck did when he was in college.

Koscheck wrestling credentials includes:

NCAA Division I National Champion (2001)
4x Division I All-American (4th, 2nd, 1st, and 3rd)
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
4x PSAC Champion
3x PSAC Wrestler of the Year
Eastern Wrestling League
2x Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Year

One thing about wrestlers is that they are very strong, very disciplined and dedicated and focused to what they are doing. Being a wrestler provides no glory. There is no pro league and people do it for the love of it. Wrestlers go through the hardest workouts out of anyone just to get the freak strength they posses. Koscheck is a focused dedicated mixed martial arts fighter who trains hard and takes being a fighter seriously.

Daley is overweight, does not train hard and is not a focused fighter in becoming a better fighter. Why you ask. In Daley’s last fight against Dustin Hazelett at UFC 108: Evans vs Silva he came into that fight overweight. He failed to make 170 pounds for the fight, and he was fined 10% of his fight purse.

This shows Daley has no discipline or ability to cut weight. That or he was very overweight and could not cut the last bit. No matter what, this shows he is not a disciplined fighter. You would never see Koscheck do that. First being a wrestler he is a master at cutting weight and second he is a true mixed martial arts fighter that trains properly.

If you look at Daley’s record he has a decent record but he has lost to the better guys in the division. He has already lost to Nick Thompson, Jake Shields, Luiz Azeredo and Jean Silva. If he can’t beat these guys what chance does he have against Koscheck?

Koscheck trains at one of the best camps in the world in American Kickboxing Academy where he trains with guys like Jon Fitch, Mike Swick, Cung Le, Cain Velasquez and Josh Thomson.

Who does Daley train with? Well he trains at Team Rough House with Dan Hardy, Ross Pearson, Andre Winner, Nick Osipczak and Dean Amasinger who are average fighters at best. Most of these guys are new to MMA and can not push Daley like the guys at in American Kickboxing Academy can. That club doesn’t even have a high level wrestling or jiu-jitsu coach. So how will Daley prepare for Koscheck? He will be fighting below average fighters and not learning any new techniques while Koscheck will have prominent trainers including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and judo master Dave Camarillo, Crazy Bob Cook, Derek Yuen, Lynn Schultz, Ted Lucio and Javier Mendez.

Bottom Line: Daley will not have the power to knock out Koscheck and he has no wrestling or grappling skills. Koscheck will use his superior wrestling to take him down and ground and pound him out. It will take very little effort for Koscheck to win this fight.

To me the sports betting lines are pretty soft. I would have set the UFC odds at -350 in favor of Koscheck so to me this fight is a steal. I would lay a lot of money on Koscheck to lay a really bad beat down Daley.

Look for Koscheck to Embarrass Daley with a Second Round Ground and Pound
