Bet this MMA UFC fight at Bookmaker
UFC Catchweight Fight: Rich “Ace” Franklin (-140) vs Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva (+110)
At a catchweight (195 lb) fight Rich “Ace” Franklin (24-4) will square off with Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva (32-9-1-1). If there is an online UFC sports bet to be made this year this is the fight.
Everyone thinks that Wanderlei is washed up and is past his prime and may have been in too many MMA battles. And yes he may be battle wore and may be punch drunk from all his fights, but ill take and battle worn Silva over Franklin any day of the week.
I have said it may time before and that Rich Franklin is the most over rated fighter, in not only the UFC but in all of mixed martial arts. He is the best ambassador for the sport and one the nicest, hardest working people in the industry but he does not have the skills to be a top level fighter. He has been marketed more so as the man and not the fighter. I can not say a bad word about Franklin the man but as a fighter he has many holes in his game and is no where near the caliber the fighter most people think he is.
The UFC betting lines and sportsbook oddsmakers are way off in setting the odds for this fight and much of it has to do with Franklin as a fan favorite and they way he is marketed in the UFC. Yes Sivla has lost 4 out of his last 5 fight but look who he has fought. Quinton Jackson at UFC 92: The Ultimate 2008, Keith Jardine at UFC 84: Ill Will, Chuck Liddell at UFC 79: Nemesis and Dan Henderson at Pride 33: The Second Coming. Silva fights top level fighters and has not fought a no name fighter in his career. In Rich Franklin’s mixed martial arts career he has only fought top ten level caliber fighters twice since entering the UFC and that was his 2 devastating loses to Anderson Silva at UFC 77: Hostile Territory and UFC 64: Unstoppable and Dan Henderson at UFC 93: Franklin vs. Henderson.
Most online bettors might choose Franklin because he is now being trained by Anderson Silva. Wanderlei and Anderson use to be the best of friends but have since split and a war of words have ensued. So he has now taking up helping Franklin to train for Wanderlei. That may be good but Anderson can not teach Franklin to fight Wanderlei in this short of time. We all know Wanderlei will come out swinging and you can not prepare for Silva’s power and aggressiveness.
Silva is a Muay Thai fighter and Franklin is kickboxer with lazy slow kicks. Anderson Silva can not teach Franklin how to kick better. If you look at Franklin when he kicks he winds up and you can see it coming. Silva’s kicks are short and snappy and will fast do to his MuayThai training. In any fight with kick boxer versus Muay Thai fighter the Muay Thai fighter will win hands down.
Striking wise there is no comparison. Silva is an aggressive striker with a lot of power behind his punches. Franklin has decent power but is slow. He has not fought a fighter with the striking ability that Silva has, except he 2 fights with Anderson Silva and we all know what happened in those fights.
Bottom Line: I’ll take a punch drunk Silva over Franklin any day of the week. What is Franklin suppose to do when the "Cachorro Louco" ("Mad Dog") in Brazil, stares down Franklin before his fights. I see Franklin trying to come out aggressive and standing toe to toe with Silva and that is the worst thing he can do. Everyone is talking about Silva and his chin now but Franklin also has a weak chin. It took three rounds before he was able to take out a very inexperienced fighter in Matt Hamill at UFC 88: Breakthrough
As a UFC handicapper this is the fight to wager on. At +110 for the Axe Murderer Silva this fight is a steal and there is not way Silva should be an underdog in this fight. Ill take a punch drunk fighter in Silva over an over hyped fighter any day.
Bet Huge on the Underdog for Silva KO
