UFC Fight Night 15 UFC Lightweight fight: Mac Danzig vs. Clay Guida Whenever Clay “The Carpenter” Guida (23-9) is fighting, it is a good thing. He always puts on a great mixed martial arts fight and his constant pressure stifles many fighters with his endless pressing attack. Guida’s fighting style frustrates many fighters but he will be fighting a very calm, focused and calculating fighting in Mac Danzig who is very methodical when he fights. Mac Danzig (19-4-1) is a very smart and skilled that will not let Danzig dictate the fight. Danzig has a certain demeanor about him that keeps him very level headed when he fights. If his game plan is thrown off in a fight Danzig will regroup and attack from other angles or come up with another game plan. UFC betting wise the online gambling lines should be pretty close with a slight favorite to Guida but this is a great UFC bet to make on Danzig. Because is such a reckless fighter he does get caught in a lot of submissions. Guida is always pressing forward and his hands and positioning leaves him vulnerable to submission attempts. Danzig is very patient and will look for the perfect opportunity to attack. If you look at Danzig’s loses he has only lost one fight badly and that was top lightweight fighter Hayato Sakurai at PRIDE 33: The Second Coming. All of his other loses came by decision which shows that he is a fighter that is always in the fight and is never over matched. Danzig is the smarter fighter and has better striking and grappling skills than Guida. Though Guida is the more aggressive and powerful striker he is wild and Danzig’s striking technique should stop Guida in his tracks with jabs to push off of. Many people will think Guida is the better striker by looking at his fights, but technically he is not a very good striker as he tends to loop his punches and he tends to push his jabs instead of snapping them. Being reckless with striking has worked for Guida against other fighters like Roger Huerta because Huerta would reciprocate trading shots with him but Danzig won’t. He is a smarter fighter that will use his better striking technique instead. Danzig boxes extensively at Wild Card gym in Hollywood, California under Freddie Roach assistant Justin Fortune. If you box with Freddie Roach you will become a great and technical fighter. He has proven himself to be an adept striker, most notably with his TKO victory over former lightweight champion Takumi Nakayama. Guida is the stronger fighter and better wrestler but he is not that much better like most people think. Guida was an assistant wrestling coach for Marian Catholic High School but he was never a dominate NCAA wrestler but Danzig was a wrestling student of Iowa wrestling standout Rico Chiapparelli and MMA fighter Frank Trigg. Guida will get his takedowns in this fight but is that a good thing or bad? If Guida gets the takedown he will fall into Danzig’s game plan as he is by far the better grappler. On the on The Ultimate Fighter, Danzig defeated BJJ black belt Joe Scarola and John Kolosci to make it to the semifinals. He then defeated again, and moved on to fight defeat a bigger stronger Tommy Speer in the finals by submission and that was at welterweight. Danzig now trains at Xtreme Couture which gives his numerous fighters to prepare for the fight while Guida trains at the Midwest Training Center which does not have the fighters, or resources at Xtreme Couture. Bottom Line: This is a MMA fight between two contrasting fighters. One is wild and unpredictable while the other fighter is technically and focused. Danzig is a very calm fighter that dedicates his entire lifestyle to being prepared and focused, He is a vegan and strict in his daily activities while Guida is all over the place. In this fight I like Danzig to break down Guida and eventually submit him either late in the second round or early in the third round. Danzig will be very prepared for this fight and his methodical meticulous nature is a bad MMA matchup for Guida who loves to go 100% all the time. He will be caught in a submission due to his wild ways. As UFC bettor this is great bet to make since the betting lines should be relatively close. Some sportsbooks might even have Guida is the betting favorite so I would lay a lot on this bet to get a good payout with out have unfavorable betting lines. Calm cool and collected wins the race.
