UFC Light heavyweight fight: Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin

There are not many locks in betting let alone UFC online betting but even though Anderson “The Spider” Silva (21-4) is moving up to fight light heavyweight for the first time in the UFC against James "Sandman" Irvin (14-4) he will still dominate. This will be Silva's debut at 205 in the UFC but he is not a small fighter. At 6 foot 2 he will not have to cut weigh to make the 185 pound division and will be as tall as the Sandman.

Betting wise the online sports books have Silva a huge favorite at -575 and rightfully so. Silva is a better striker technically but Irvin has a slime punchers chance. In the stand up Silva has so many weapons. He has great Muay Thai skills with knees, lower leg kicks, elbows and strikes. All Irvin has is punching power. He will be over matched and over whelmed with Silva’s striking arsenal. Anderson’s MMA camp is full of great training partners at his resource with Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort, Assuerio Silva, and the Nogueira brothers.

James Irvin is a one dimensional fighter and his one punch KO over Houston Alexander at UFC Fight Night 13 gives great hype for the UFC. Irvin has not fought very many high level fighters in his career while Silva has fought everyone in MMA with brutal destructions over Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson at UFC 82: Pride of a Champion, Nate Marquardt at UFC 73: Stacked, Travis Lutter, Jeremy Horn, Alex Stiebling, Roan Carneiro, Hayato Sakurai and Lee Murray.

Irvin has no ground game and most of his fights end in the first round. If you look at his fights he always comes out strong but he lacks conditioning and cardio. If this fight goes to the second round (which it will not) he will be gassed and open for strikes.

Although known primarily for his skills in Muay Thai, Silva is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which he earned in 2006 from Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira. If his feels like it Silva can take Irvin to the ground and submit him.

There is not much to say, Anderson Silva is the best pound for pound mixed martial arts fighter in the world and there will be no size disadvantage even though he is moving up a weight division.

Bottom Line: The fight will start off with Silva slowly stalking Irvin and once he closes the distance and gain the clinch he will be able to use elbows and knees to Irvin’s head. From there if Irvin survives he will try to back off Silva with punches. Doing so will leave him open for counter shots and lower leg kicks. The Sandman is a wild swinger and he will be caught with shots.

UFC betting this is a tough bet to make as you would have to lay down 575 dollars just to win 100. But if you have the funds bet what you can because I don’t see anyway Irvin can beat the best fighter in the world. This is as much a betting lock as there is in MMA. If your online sportsbooks have UFC betting props bet the under and this fight should not go past the first round. Also place a prop bet on a KO victory in favor of Silva just to get a better value other than -575.
