UFC middleweight mixed martial arts fight: Chris Leben (-130) vs. Alessio Sakara (Even)
If you are an avid reader of our site you will know that we always pick against Chris “The Crippler” Leben (17-4) because of his lack of talent and the fact that he should not be in the UFC until he gains the necessary skills to compete. I’m still saying that Leben is now good enough to be in the UFC but he is fighting Alessio Sakara who REALLY should not be in the UFC. As much as I hate to say it, Chris Leben will win this UFC fight.
Sakara is a great stand up fighter and is more technically sound, boxing wise, but that’s about it. If the UFC continues to put in substandard fighters against Leben then he will continue to win. Alessio “Legionarivs” Sakara (12-6-1) has no ground game and even though he has moved from light heavyweight to middleweight he still does not have the skills to really compete at a high level. Sakara has power but also has a weak chin with knock out loses to Houston Alexander at UFC 75: Champion vs. Champion and Andrew McFedries at UFC 65: Bad Intentions. Sakara has the traditional boxing stance and style and he leads forward too much and has not adapted to the kicking aspect of the stand up game.
Chris Leben has a great heart as a fighter and has improved his all round game. His last fight with Terry Martin shows he can take shots to the head not go down. Despite his lack of talent he does put on a great MMA fight each and every time he steps in the ring. Leben has a way better ground game and has the definite advantage in this category. If this fight goes to the ground Leben will dominate him as his ground game is far more advanced than Sakara, which does not say much about Sakara as a ground fighter.
Chris Leben has improved as a fighter. He still has a lot of holes in his game but it is much tighter than Sakara’s game. Leben has moved to East Oahu, Hawaii to accept the main coaching job at Icon Fitness MMA Gym which has seemed to rejuvenated his career to learn be a more well rounded fighter.
Bottom Line: Both fighters are not the greatest fighters and Sakara is the lesser of the two fighters. Leben should be able to take Sakara to the ground and once this fight goes to the ground Leben has way better grappling skills to submit him. Hopefully Leben will fight a smart game plan and not try to slug it out against a technically bigger and stronger fighter in the stand up. If Leben does not go for this strategy and shoot in, he really should not be fighting. This fight on paper has Leben as the more polished fighter with more skills. He should win this fight with ease. That is Leben fights a smart game. As a UFC bettor I would lay money down on Leben who has the ability to knock people out but it will be his skills on the ground that will be the deciding factor in this mixed martial arts fight.
Leben wins with a second round submission
