UFC heavyweight mixed martial arts fight: Andrei Arlovski (-400) vs. Jake O'Brien (+300)

Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei “The Pit-bull” Arlovski (12-5) will look to get back on track as he faces one of the brightest heavyweights in the UFC in Jake O'Brien. Arlovski has been regulated to the under card and is no longer on the main card of the UFC pay preview. There is a reason for that. Arlovski stock has fallen quite considerable and I don’t think he has worked his game up to the level he once was.

Betting wise I love the odds for O'Brien as most online betting sites odds have O'Brien at +300 at BetUS.com. This is a bet I can’t lay off. Andrei Arlovski has the definite advantage on the ground and better submission skills but he doesn’t use them as much as he should. He would rather try to stand up and trade shots with opponents. He has the power to beat most fighters in the stand up but he has changed his game to only rely on that. Arlovski’s fight game has changed since his first KO lost to Tim Sylvia. Ever since then he is not the Pit-bull most fans seem to know him as.

Since he got knocked out, Arlovski has been less likely to engage in the stand up and has no intention to shoot in for the ground game. Arlovski’s second fight with Sylvia was one of the most boring fights in UFC history as neither man engaged the stand up. Though Arlovski might not be solely to blame he has looked very gun shy to step in and engage. I think Arlovski is scared to fight. At UFC 66: Liddell vs. Ortiz 2 against Marcio Cruz he looked great against a lesser opponent with a first round KO. It looked like the Arlovski of old, but his next fight at UFC 70: Nations Collide against Fabricio Werdum he once against was scared to engage in the stand up. Both fighters kept their distance for the majority of the fight, causing the referee to inform them at the beginning of the third round that he would remove a point from the first fighter to retreat in that round. Although Arlovski won the fight by unanimous decision, many boos could be heard from the crowd. It has been almost a year since Arlovski has fought n the UFC and he will be a little ring rusty.

Rumors of Arlovski not happy with the UFC have been surfacing as he wanted to leave the UFC to fight in other organizations. After 11 months of inactivity, Arlovski is scheduled to face undefeated fighter Jake O'Brien which is a very dangerous fight for him in my opinion. Jake O'Brien (10-0) is a big heavyweight at 240 pounds and he has very heavy hands. He is undefeated in mixed martial arts and 8 out of his 10 wins have been by knock out. Jake O'Brien shocked the world win a brutal beating over Heath Herring at UFC Fight Night 8 and I like his chances. Yes he is a definite underdog but he has the striking ability to KO any heavyweight in the UFC division. Jake O'Brien’s biggest asset is his wrestling skills. He will have to use he strengthen and take down Arlovski and hold him there for a ground and pound.

Bottom Line: Yes Arlovski has fought some of the best heavyweight in the world like Roman Zentsov, Ricco Rodriguez at UFC 32: Showdown in the Meadowlands, Pedro Rizzo at UFC 36: Worlds Collide, Ian Freeman, Vladimir Matyushenko, Cabbage at UFC 47: It's On!, Justin Eilers, Paul Buentello and Tim Slyvia (twice) but he has only beat a real top heavyweight once and that the first fight with Slyvia. He has loses to top level fighters like Rizzo and Rodriguez. I’m not saying O'Brien is a top heavyweight but Arlovski’s heart and mind might not be fully focused. As a UFC bettor I love to pick this as a great dog pick. Odds are too good to pass up on this UFC fight

Pick the Dog, take Jake O'Brien with a first round KO over Arlovski
