When did the UFC become the WWE? Brock Lesner has had ONE mixed martial arts fight in his career and he's fighting a former UFC heavyweight champion. Why do most online sports book betting odds have Brock Lesner as a heavy favorite against one of the most technically skilled heavyweights in the UFC?

Brock Lesner (1-0) is not a true MMA fighter at this point in his career and yes, he is a former world champion but at fake fighting not real mixed martial arts. Being the former 3 time WWE Champion, King of the Ring and Royal Rumble champion means hill of beans, once you step into the UFC octagon. Lesner has never fought in the UFC octagon before and no matter how composed you are you will be nervous in front of the big stage. His first fight at K-1 Hero's Las Vegas, he was supposed to fight Choi Hong-man but he had to pull out due to injury and Min Soo Kim stepped into the ring with only 2 weeks notice.

Lesner had not yet proven himself in the ring so how can he be a favorite in his fight against Frank Mir. He has been training with Minnesota Martial Arts Academy under Greg Nelson, and University of Minnesota Head Assistant wrestling coach Marty Morgan but will that be enough to learn stand up and jujitsu skills. Brock is not a joke but he is certainly not a top level MMA fighter. Athletically, Lesner is a specimen with an incredible college wrestling background as he finished his amateur career as a two-time NJCAA All-American, two-time NCAA All-American, two-time Big Ten Champion, and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion with a record of 106-5 overall in four years of college. Lesnar also played for the National Football League NFL for the Minnesota Vikings in a number of pre-season games but was never able to make the big squad as a defensive lineman.

Frank “The Baddest Man on the Planet” Mir  (10 -3) is a former UFC champion with some of the best ground skills in the division. Aside from Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira he is probably the best technical heavyweight in the UFC. Mir is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Wrestling and Muay Thai that has some of the best potential in the UFC but has never worked as hard as his talent. He has come into fights out of shape and overweight which has slowed down his technique and drastically affected his cardio. His poor conditioning and cardio was a direct result to a September 17 2004, motorcycle accident in which Mir broke his femur bone and tore all the ligaments in his knee. Mire came back to fighting too early and it was very evident that he had gained a lot of extra weight in the belly.

Now Mir is fully recovered from his accident and has lost the weight gained. He is in prime fighting condition, and he will be in perfect condition when he steps into the octagon versus Lesner. You can deny experience and Mir has fought some very strong and tough heavyweights like Antoni Hardonk, Brandon Vera,  Dan Christison, Tim Sylvia, Wes Simms, Tank Abbott, Ian Freeman, and Pete Williams. Mir has faced every type of fighter from BJJ to big and strong striking fighters like Tim Sylvia and Abbott and he has been able to beat them with little ease.

Lesner will have the power and strength advantage but Mir is no slouch when it comes to wrestling as he won the State heavyweight wrestling title in 1998. If this fight goes to the ground Lesners’s power and ability to hold Mir will be compromised and his base will not be very good as Mir will be able to sweep Lesner from guard.

If this fight goes to the ground it'll be over quickly. Remember wrestlers don’t like to be on their back and once on his back Lesner will not know how to move his body. He has always relied on his power to muscle out of situation but against a skilled BJJ fighter your power will be neutralized.

Bottom line: No way Lesner should be the favorite in this fight. He has great wrestling skills but no ring fighting or no holds barred fighting experience. This fight will be a clinic. Mir will expose a lot of Lesner's holes.

Mir wins by late first round arm bar
