Dream 2 - Middleweight Grand Prix Opening Round
Dreams Fight Results and Recap
Dreams Betting Review:
The Dreams Middleweight tournament Grand Prix kicked off and the first round surprise was Denis Kang losing in the first round to Gegard Mousasi by triangle choke. Kang came out and his game plan was to take Mousasi down and submit him. Kang took him down and controlled most of the fight and had Mousasi is a kimura from half guard but Mousasi was able to get out. Kang got on his feet with Mousasi on his back and when Kang went forward for an attack he was caught is a tight triangle choke and had to tap out at 3:10 of the first round. For online MMA betting this was the biggest upset of the first round as Kang is a BJJ black belt from Marcus Soares who is generally regarded as one of the best BJJ instructors in the world from the Carlson Gracie side.
In a rematch of the light weight grand prix between Shinya Aoki and Gesias JZ Calvancante Aoki won with a unanimous decision over the much more powerful Calvancante. The first fight was a no contest after JZ was called for injuring Aoki by illegal elbows to the back of the head. Aoki was able to use his active guard to nullify JZ’s attacks as Aoki transitioned from leg locks to taking JZ’s back while standing with a body triangle. Once Aoki had JZ on his back his use his long legs to push off and actively use his guard to frustrate JZ. While on his back Aoki was able to effectively use up kicks to JZ’s head as he was unable to press forward and gain top position. In the second round Aoki used his dexterity to use a rubber guard to transition from an arm to gogoplata. Aoki was able keep JZ’s power at bay for the entire match with a unanimous victory over the top ten lightweight in the world.
The legend Kazushi Sakuraba faced off with newcomer Andrews Nakahara where Sakuraba was able to use his experience to wear down Nakahara before a vicious neck crank. Nakahara had a great game plan and used his kicks to keep Sakuraba at bay. Once Sakuraba gained control it was over quite fast.
With some surprises in the first round Zelg Galesic looks to be the new front runner to win it all as he easily disposed of Magomed Sultanakhmedov with a first round arm bar. Also Jacare looks great and if he continues to work on his striking he will pose a great threat in the tournament.
The second round of the tournament takes place in June at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan and the finals for the middleweight grand prix will take place in September at the Saitama Super Arena
The next Dream events will the second round of the lightweight tournament May 11 at the Saitama Super Arena for Dream's 3.
