DREAM 6He was an underdog at the online sportsbook throughout the Middleweight Grand Prix as he was primarily know as a striker, yet he defied the world to become the first DREAM middleweight champion.

23 Year old Gegard Mousasi from Armenia faced and beat every type of fighter on route to beat Jacare in the finals. In the first round of the grand prix he defeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Denis Kang by triangle choke. Kang tok him to the ground and Mousasi beat him at his own game. In the second round at DREAM.4, he won a decision victory over Dong Sik Yoon to get to the finals at DREAM 6.

In the opening round of DREAM 6 he fought one of the most feared striker strikers in the middleweight division by submitting K-1 veteran Melvin Manhoef by triangle choke. Manhoef was pissed despite Mousasi perfect game plan as he was quoted as saying

“I thought he would stand with me. I thought he had balls, but he didn’t,” said Manhoef, whose five-fight win streak was snapped in defeat. “In the end, he won fair and square. It’s my own fault that I did not take in consideration that he might also go to the ground.”

2008 Middleweight Grand Prix tournament winnerMousasi would face Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in the finals as Jacare put on a grappling clinic by arm barring Zelg Galesic early in the first round. Jacare was a fan favorite and by far the best grappler in the tournament and the atmosphere was buzzing at with the thought of Jacare and Mousasi facing off.

In the finals he faced one of the best grapplers in the world in Jacare . Mousasi defeated Souza by an upkick after being taken down by the Brazilian, thus becoming the first DREAM Middleweight Champion and 2008 Middleweight Grand Prix tournament winner. This victory now catapults the once little known fighter to the top ten middleweights with his victory.

Besides the grand prix, DREAM 6 was chalk full of fights as Sergei Kharitonov returned to fight after a long layoff to beat hard hitting Jimmy Ambriz by punches. The most anticipated fight of the night was between Alistair Overeem versus Mirko Filipovic. Despite cutting and beating Cro Cop throughout the fight, Overeem landed several knees to the cup of the Cro Cop and he received a yellow card for the final infraction which resulted in a no contest.

The Japanese crows booed as Yoshihiro Akiyama needed only 6:26 to beat newcomer Masanori Tonooka with a slow-developing armbar. Despite being one of the best fighter in the world at 185, he is not well liked by many people as he has been labeled as a cheater. After beating Tonooka quite easily, everyone is anticipating the  heel of mixed martial arts to fight the Mousasi.
