Bet on UFC Fight Night 13 at BetUS.com
UFC Fight Night 13 has a better mixed martial arts card than most of the recent UFC pay-per-view events cards. The 13th version will take place on April 2, 2008 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The event will lead-in to the premiere of The Ultimate Fighter 7 on Spike TV with Quinton Rampage Jackson and Forrest Griffin leading the teams this year. Many of the fighters on the card are hungry to climb up the UFC ladder, which always leads to exciting fights; especially in front of a national audience. Part one will be the UFC betting match-ups and UFC handicapping picks for the main event cards for UFC Fight Night 13.
This card is subject to change:
- Lightweight bout: Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon
- Welterweight bout: Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves
- Light heavyweight bout: Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch
- Lightweight bout: Nathan Diaz vs. Kurt Pellegrino
- Light heavyweight bout: Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin
- Lightweight bout: Frank Edgar vs. Gray Maynard (swing bout; may not be televised)
- Lightweight bout: Spencer Fisher vs. Marcus Aurelio
- Lightweight bout: Josh Neer vs Din Thomas
- Lightweight bout: Clay Guida vs. Samy Schiavo
- Welterweight bout: George Sotiropoulos vs. Roman Mitichyan
- Welterweight bout: Anthony Johnson vs Tommy Speer
- Lightweight bout: Manvel Gamburyan vs Jeff Cox
Kenny “Ken Flo” Florian (-210) vs. Joe “Baby Joe” Lauzon (+170)
Both fighters have great jujitsu skills but Florian has the advantage in this category. Florian has more experience on the ground as he has competed in more BJJ grappling tournaments than Lauzon, but Lauzon has more experience in mixed martial arts. He has much more punching power and a better all round MMA fighter but don’t count out Lauzon’s grappling as 13 out of his 16 wins have been by submission. Stand up will decide this fight, and I think Joe Lauzon has a more awkward style of striking that is more deceptive, and he has the power to knock Florian out.
Betting Wise: At +170 this is a great UFC bet to make. Take Lauzon who will dominate the stand-up and knock Ken Flo out. His jujitsu is better than Lauzons’ but his grappling skills will not overwhelm him.
Baby Joe will win by knock out.

Karo "The Heat" Parisyan (-175) vs. Thiago "The Pit Bull" Alves (+145)
Karo “The Heat” Parisyan (18-4) fights Thiago “The Pit Bull” Alves (13-3). This is going to be a great match up. Alves started training in Muay Thai when he was 15, and mixed martial arts at 17. He is also a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He will be facing Parisyan who, at this point in his career is dedicated to MMA fighting. His stand up, grappling and in the clinch skills are the best in the UFC and perhaps mixed martial arts. He has six Junior National belts to his credit, and he has competed in Olympic Judo trials for the 2004 games in Athens. Alves is a real Pit Bull, but he is fighting one of the best welterweights in the world and Parisyan has now rededicated himself to train properly instead of just relying on his skills. Parisyan wants a shot at the title and he knows that he has to have convincing wins to get it.
Betting line: Parisyan is a -175 favorite. Though I think he will win this fight, Alves has the stand up power and grappling skills to compete with Parisyan.
In two years he might be able to beat Parisyan but not today.

Matt "The Hammer" Hamill vs. Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch
Matt “The Hammer” Hamill (3-1) fights UFC surprise Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch (7-1) in a light heavyweight UFC bout. Boetsch shocked everyone by beating David Heath at UFC 81. Everyone except us; if you read our UFC match up we called this UFC dog pick. David Heath was a mismatch in the fight in the stand up and Hamill will pose a way tougher matchup in this fight.
This fight will be a wrestling match up and Matt Hamil has superior wrestling skills. He will be able to out wrestle Boetsch, and ground and pound him for a victory. Boetsch does have better stand up but this fight will go to the ground for a boring ground and pound fight. Neither fighter is great technically at the stand up or at grappling. Each fighter will use their sheer power in this fight. The difference is that Hamill is a much more polished MMA fighter. Boetsch has more experience but Hamil has the potential skill.
Betting Line: I like Hamill upside in this fight even though Boetsch has the advantage in the striking. Boetsch will tire out after the second round and from there Hamill will be able to take control of the fight.
Hamill wins by more takedowns and he will be able to control the fight on the ground for a 3 round spilt decision

Nathan Diaz vs. Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino
The next fight is a lightweight bout between Nathan Diaz (8-2) versus Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino (11-3). Nathan Diaz is a legitimate MMA fighter and he was the TUF 5 winner for a reason. Pellegrino is a great jujitsu fighter but he does not have the skills Diaz has. Also Diaz has better training pedigree where he is a student of the great Cesar Gracie. Not only does Diaz have better BJJ and grappling skills he also trains with a better group of fighters like his brother Nick Diaz and Jakes Shield. Pellegrino trains at the Armory in Jupiter Florida which he does not have the caliber of fighters that Diaz trains with. Out of Pellegrino’s 11 wins 8 have been by submission and only one by knock out which means he does not have the power to KO Diaz.
Betting line: Diaz is better than Pellegrino in all aspects and Diaz should be able to control Pellegrino with his better jujitsu. If this goes to a stand up match Diaz has that lankey body and looping punches to throw off Pellegrino. As a UFC bettor I really like Diaz in this fight that has all the tools to be great in the UFC.
Nate fought Alvin Robinson who was a brown belt under Royce Gracie and he submitted Robinson like he was a white belt. Diaz should have no time on the ground with Pellegrino. Diaz just has a better pedigree regiment that Pellegrino has as a fighter.
Look for a first round submission by Diaz over Pellegrino

Houston "The Assassin" Alexander vs. James “The Sandman” Irvin
The last televised fight on TV is a Light heavyweight bout between the hard hitting Houston Alexander (8-1) versus the hard hitting James “The Sandman” Irvin (12-4). Both fighters are hard throwers but Alexander has way more power and striking ability. Irvin is also a heavy striker but nowhere near as powerful as Alexander. Irvin does not have the grappling skills to expose Alexander’s weakness, and this will be a stand up fight.
Betting Line: Both fighters are heavy, strong strikers, lack stamina, powerful and lack the ground game so this will be whoever is last standing wins the fight.
Alexander by first round KO
