Part 2
Part 2 of the UFC Fight Night 13 mixed martial arts betting preview has www.fighting-mma.com’s UFC betting preview for the preliminary card that will not be shown on Spike TV for UFC Fight Night 13 on April 2, 2008.
The first mixed martial arts fight is a swing bout, which may or may not be televised depending on the length of the main event fights. The swing first swing MMA fight is a really great MMA match up between Frank Edgar and Gray Maynard.
Frank “The Answer” Edgar vs. Gray Maynard
This lightweight bout will be a wrestler’s duel as both fighters have a great Greco Roman wrestling backgrounds. This fight has a chance to be a great fight or a boring wrestlers duel, ground and pound or lay and pray contest. Frank "The Answer" Edgar is a beast and is still undefeated at 8-0. He will be fighting Gray Maynard who is a more accomplished wrestler. Edgar only competed at the New Jersey state championship tournament twice while Maynard wrestled at Michigan State University MSU with Rashad Evans and was a co-captain All-American honors 3 times in his collegiate career. Upon graduation, Maynard ranked 11th all-time in MSU history with 106 career wins.
Edgar is the more polished fighter and has fought and beaten better competition like Spencer Fisher, Mark Bocek, and Tyson Griffin. Though the UFC betting odds are not out yet, Edgar should be a big favorite. For this MMA fight take the underdog Gray Maynard.
Maynard is a better wrestler and has been training with Team Quest so his partners and workouts are much tougher than Edgars. Maynard has better jujitsu skills and will be able to holds his position on the ground versus Edgar. The Answer does have better stand up but Maynard should be able to scores points with his better take down skills.
Take Maynard for an upset victory.

Spencer Fisher (-130) vs. Marcus Aurelio (Even)
This is the UFC bet of the night to make. Spencer “The King” Fisher (20 - 4) is the favorite in this fight and I have no idea why. Marcus Aurelio (14 - 5) is ranked in our MMA top ten lightweights and Fisher might not even be top 20. Fisher is a favorite because UFC fans are use to seeing him fight. Well Marcus Aurelio has fought way better MMA fighters and has beaten fighters like Takanori Gomi and should have beaten Clay Guida at UFC 74: Respect. Marcus Aurelio has way more skills and his stand up is better than most people think. If he can’t win in the stand he will take him to the ground. His training at American Top Team has made him into a more dangerous fighter.
Fisher has better stand up, but Aurelio will win this fight on the ground. He has much better grappling skills and once this fight goes to the ground it will be over. If Gomi couldn’t knock Aurelio out, there is no way Fisher will be able to.
Marcus Aurelio will beat Fisher with ease.

Josh Neer vs Din Thomas
Din Thomas (20-7) is just a way better fighter than Josh “The Dentist” Neer (21-6-1) who has good stand up skills but that’s about it. Din Thomas is a complete fighter with great stand up and jujitsu skills. He is very well round and will pick apart Josh Neer’s game. He has beaten Matt Serra, Fabiano Iha, Stephen Palling, Jens Pulver, Dokonjonosuke Mishima, and Clay Guida. He has also fought some of the best fighters in the game like BJ Penn, Kenny Florian, Amar Suloev, and Carl Uno while Neer has fought no top level competition.
This will be another Miletich Fighting Systems versus American Top Team fight and ATT will prevail again. Neer has a lot of power but Thomas is very experienced and there is nothing Neer has that Din would be expecting. Once this goes to the ground it wil be over quick.
Thomas wins with first round submission

Clay Guida vs. Samy Schiavo
Clay The Carpenter Guida (22-9) is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC and he will be fighting France’s Samy Schiavo (10 – 4). Schiavo does have some decent grappling and ground skills but this will be his first UFC fight and he will not be able to adapt to the pressing attack of Guida who is always in your face. Schiavo does not have the stand up power to push Guida back.
Guida will overwhelm the UFC newcomer with his forward attack and will be able to control the fight. He will shoot in, take Schiavo down, and ground and pound him out in the first round.
Lay a lot of money on the Carpenter with a first round Blitzkrieg of Schiavo in the first round.

George Sotiropoulos vs. Roman Mitichyan
Roman Mitichyan (5-1) will be fighting Australian George Sotiropoulos. Both fighters have good ground skills but Sotiropoulos is the better man in the ground. He also has more experience and has fought in the octagon and in big organizations like Shooto and the UFC: the Ultimate Finale 6. Mitichyan has the strength and wrestling background to control Sotiropoulos but I like Sotiropoulos’s BJJ skills. This will be a tough fight but I like the better grappler in this grappling contest.
Sotiropoulos has more power and he will score more points in the stand up and will be able to deflect Mitichyan takedowns. If he does take Sotiropoulos down, Sotiropoulos will be able to pull guard and reverse Mitichyan.
UFC Betting wise, this fight should even odds and I would stay away from this match as both fighters are quite even and this fight could go either way.
Look for Sotiropoulos to win a three round decision.

Anthony Johnson vs. Tommy Speer
After getting just worked at the Ultimate Fighter Finale Tommy Speer is back against lesser competition in Anthony Johnson (4-1). Johnson is basically a poluka in this fight. Tommy Speer will use his size and strength and superior wrestling ability to dominate Johnson. Anthony Johnson does have better technical standup skills but he won’t be able to defend Speers as he shoots in. Once the fight goes to the ground Speer will be able to control him and pound Johnson out.
Speer will redeem himself with a ground and pound victory in the first round.

Manvel Gamburyan vs. Jeff Cox
Ultimate fighter finalist Manvel Gamburyan will take on Jeff Cox (9-2). Cox is the bigger stronger fighter but that is nothing new to Gamburyan who is always the smaller fighter. Gamburyan has the judo background and being so short is actually an advantage for Gamburyan as Cox will not be able to arm bar or submit Gamburyan because his limbs are so short. Gamburyan has the strength and is just little pit bull when he fights.
Gamburyan has better technical fundamentals combined with very aggressive skills that will put off Cox. Cox is more of a submission fighter and Gamburyan will pose a lot of problems for Cox due to his size.
Betting wise: Don’t bet against Gamburyan who is a more accomplished fighter with a better pedigree and better training partners than Cox. When it comes to ground fighting, Gamburyan has more skill and will be able to take Cox’s back due to his quickness.
Take Gamburyan with a submission victory in the second round.
