Aleksander Emelianenko vs Paul Buentello
Fedor’s little brother Aleksander Emelianenko (13-3) will fight hard hitting Paul Buentello. Like his older brother Aleksander is a great MMA fighter who can both strike and grapple. Emelianenko has fought some top level competition in the past and Paul "The Headhunter" Buentello has not fought as good as fighters as Aleksander and when he does he loses.
Buentello has lost to Alistair Overeem, Andrei Arlovski, Ricco Rodriguez, Gan McGee and Evan Tanner while Aleksander has fought and beaten Sergei Kharitonov, Pawel Nastula, James Thompson and Assuerio Silva. Aleksander has also fought and lost to top ten heavyweights Josh Barnett, Mirko Cro Cop, and Josh Barnet.
Both of these big tall fighters can strike and if this fight goes to the ground Emelianenko will submit him with relative ease. Striking wise Buentello does have a punchers chance but Aleksander is a much harder striker and will be able to storm in and out strike The Headhunter. Buentello (AKA) American Kickboxing Academy under trainer, "Crazy" Bob Cook but Emelianenko is much more experience and has better training partners at the Russian Red Devil Camp.
Betting wise the odds will be in favor of Emelianenko for obvious reasons and I would lay a lot of money on Aleksander to KO Buentello in the first round with effective striking
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs Edwin Dewees
In a light heavyweight bout the twin brother of current UFC heavyweight champion Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (12-3) will fight MMA veteran Edwin Dewees. Once the online MMA betting lines for this fight are out up, the betting odds will have Rogerio as a huge betting favorite at around -450 and rightfully so. Rogerio have fought everyone top fighter in MMA and is incredible skilled in both the standup and grappling.
Rogerio is a very good amateur boxer, as he was the 2006 and 2007 Brazilian Super Heavyweight Champion. He also won a bronze medal in the 2007 Pan American Games. He even has better striking skills than his twin brother who fights at heavyweight. Grappling wise Rogerio is heads and tails above Dewees as he trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo de la Riva. He also trains with the Black House MMA team which houses his brother the UFC heavyweight champion, Anderson Silva the current UFC middleweight champion, Paulo Filho the current WEC Middleweight Champion and Lyoto Machida a top light heavyweight contender. Edwin Dewees does not train with anybody close to the Black House camp and does not have the striking and grappling skills to compete with the much larger fighter in Rogerio.
Edwin Dewees has typically fought as a welterweight and will now have to move up to light heavyweight which means he is either out of shape or had to gain a lot of weight which means he will be slower less comfortable when fighting.
Dewees has lost the last 3 of his fights to Frank Trigg, Jorge Rivera, and Art Santore and has never beat a top ten fighter. Nogueira on the other hand has fought a who’s who in MMA with wins over Dan Henderson at PRIDE Total Elimination 2005, Kazushi Sakuraba at PRIDE Shockwave 2003, Alistair Overeem, Guy Mezger at PRIDE 24 - Cold Fury 3, Kazuhiro Nakamura at PRIDE 25 - Body Blow and Tsuyoshi Kohsaka. H ehas also fought to level fighters like Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Vladimir Matyushenko and Shogun at PRIDE Critical Countdown 2005.
Bet heavily on this fight as Edwin Dewees will have no answer for Nogueira’s striking or grappling. Dewees will be coming into this figh tout of shape as he was a last minute replacement. Vernon White, who was originally scheduled to face Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, was removed from the card after testing positive for a banned substance following a May bout.
Whatever the betting odds are for this fight bet a lot on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for an east victory.
Vitor Belfort vs Terry Martin
This is the most interesting fight of the night. Vitor Belfort (16-8) was once the brightest star in mixed martial arts. He had incredible hands and was a Carlson Gracie black belt. In the UFC’s infancy his grappling game was the best in the world. Vitor has had a rough spell but he has rededicated his life to train hard and if he is mentally right Belfort is still among the top fighters in the world.
Terry Martin is a hard hitting fighter with incredible strength but that’s about it. If this fight even touches the ground Belfort will submit him. But Martin will not attempt to go on the ground and will instead try to stand and trade shots with Belfort.
What many don’t remember is that Belfort is a very accomplished boxer who has KO’ed big striker like Scott Ferrozzo at UFC 12: Judgment Day, Tank Abbott at UFC 13: The Ultimate Force and Wanderlei Silva at UFC Brazil: Ultimate Brazil. Belfort also had a brutal KO over Marvin Eastman at UFC 43 and Terry Martin lost to Eastman in a decision at UFC 81: Breaking Point.
Though many have forgotten Vitor remember this; he was the UFC 12 heavyweight tournament champion, the UFC light heavyweight champion and is currently the Cage Rage light heavyweight champion.
Vitor has fought some of the best fighters in the world like Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture, Alistair Overeem, Dan Henderson, Heath Herring, Chuck Liddell, and Kazushi Sakuraba while Martin has not. Vitor has recently began training with Chute Boxe in Brazil and this added striking ability will only improve Belfort’s game.
Betting wise: The online betting odds have not come out but the MMA betting lines will be pretty close with perhaps maybe Martin a slight favorite. Belfort still has what it takes to be a great fighter with striking and Brazilian jujitsu while Martin is a one dimensional striker. This is a great bet to make. If this fight were to take place 5 years a go the betting lines would have been -450 but today with will be much lower so take advantage of this online MMA bet.
Savant Young vs Mark Hominick
Mark "The Machine" Hominick (13-7) is a very heavy handed fighter that will be fighting a grappler in Savant Young. Hominick has been around the fight game in Canada for a long time with impressive wins over Ryan Diaz, Stephane Vigneault, Yves Edwards at UFC 58 - USA vs Canada, and a beat down over BJJ black belt Jorge Gurgel at UFC - Ultimate Fight Night 5.
Hominick is a smart fighter and Young is decent grapler but not a great one. When he has stepped to fight bigger named opponents he will lose. He has loses to Chris Lytle, John Alessio, Jason Von Flue and the fat guy who could not make weight on the Ultimate Fighter Gabe Ruediger.
Young is not a full time fighter as he has a job while Hominick works as an instructor under Shawn Tompkins and with Sam Stout at Team Tompkins Muay Thai and Submission Academy in London, Ontario.
The online betting odds for this fight should be close together and the best bet to make is by placing a lot on the proven full time fighter and that is Mark Hominick. Hominick will come out strike and Young will try to shot in but Hominick has a very good sprawl. He will pepper Young with lower legs shots and eventually catch Young for a second round TKO.
Mike Pyle vs JJ Ambrose
Mike Quicksand Pyle (14-5-1) is a very tough fighter and part of the Xtreme Couture fight team and if coached by Randy Couture. Pyle is a very well rounded fighter who can wrestle, grapple and strike very well. He is known of his conditioning and Pyle is very strong for his size.
JJ Ambrose is a very good fighter and at 9 and 1 has a good record but he has not fought anyone with the résumé and skill that Pyle has. Pyle loses have come two Quinton Rampage Jackson, Rory Markham, Matt Horwich and top welterweight fighter Jake Shields.
I really don’t see any way JJ Ambrose will be able to beat Pyle. Pyle is a well rounded fighter and under Randy Couture he ahs some of the best training partners and coaches at his disposal.
Look for Pyle to dominate the standup and than take JJ down and ground and pound him out late in the first round.
Justin Levens vs Ray Lazama
Justin Levens (9-6) is a better fighter than his record indicates. He has loses to Vladimir Matyushenko, Jorge Santiago, Evan Tanner, and Scott Smith. He has fought is fought in big organizations like the IFL, WEC and the UFC and should come into this fight as the betting favorite versus Ray Lazama who at 5 and 5 is not the biggest threat.
Lazama is a huge puncher and that’s about it but Levins who had fought most of his career at light heavyweight will now move to middleweight which means he will a bigger body and more powerful than the hard hitting Lazama.
Betting wise the lines should favor Levens but I can see Lazama pulling off the upsets. As a MMA bettor I think Levins will use his experience to wear down Lazama but honestly I am laying off this bet as there much better bets to make. On paper I am saying Levins wins this fight but it could go either way. If there are MMA prop bets for this fight I don’t see this fight going past the first round. I am saying to lay off but if you are to bet take the favorite unless the betting lines are just too big to lay on Levins.
