Affliction Banned started off rocky as Fedor’s brother and Red Devil Top Team teammate Aleksander Emelianenko was not authorized to fight on the card. However the Fedor hype is real as he put on a clinic to beat Tim Sylvia in just 36 seconds.

Veteran mixed martial arts fighter Gary “Big Daddy” Goodrich (23-17-1, 13 KOs, 9 Submissions) has replaced Aleksander Emelianenko, who didn’t meet CSAC licensing standards to fight Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello. To many people surprise Goodrich was a game fighter as he was landing numerous right leg shots to the Head Hunter. Even more surprising was the fact that Goodrich was able to have enough cardio to last the first two rounds. After two rounds Goodrich looked to have a shot at this fight but near the end looked a little gassed. If you didn’t know that Goodrich was a last minute replacement you might have thought Buentello was the one out of shape. Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello pulls out a unanimous decision.

Vitor Belfort, who was once one of the best fighters in the world, made his Affliction debut against hard hitting Terry Martin. Coming into the ring Vitor looked great and in shape and his training camp with former combatant Randy Couture looks to have paid off. At the start Vitor lands a great high leg kick to the head but Martin continues to stalk him in the stand up. The round ended with Vitor landing the more crisp cleaner punches. The second round started with Martin taking down Vitor but his ground and pound was ineffective. Once they got back to their feet Vitro landed a flying knee (just like the one he did against Marvin Eastman) and than finished him off with a brutal uppercut and than straight left that knocked out Martin before he even hit the ground. Fighting at middleweight Vitor Belfort looks great and looks to have his career back on track.

As the pay per view started, as expected Mike Pyle put on a clinic versus JJ Ambrose. Pyle who is an Xtreme Couture fighter used his wrestling to set up a Rear-naked choke for a first round victory. The next fight had Edwin Dewees coming in as a huge sports betting underdog versus Antonio Rogerio Nogueira who came into the fight as a -1050 betting favorite. Because Dewees had to bulk up for this fight he looked overweight. Dewees used push kicks to back off Nogueira but Nogueira soon landed in Dewees guard and backed out to get the fight back standing. Nogueira than got the Thai clinch and administered brutal knees and than landed a left and right hook that sent Dewees to the ground until Herb Dean stopped the fight late into the first round.

The Law Matt Lindland made his return to MMA against Brazilian Fabio Negao. Right off the bat Linland lands a left that’s sends Negao down. From there Lindland applies a guillotine from the top position but Negao gets out into his guard. Lindland applies a Sakuraba double chop and postures up and lands some punches in the ground and pound. The second round starts off with both fighters looking tired. Negao starts to land a number of elbows in the standup that hurt Lindland. Lindland regain composure and ends up in Negao’s guard. The fight ends with a unanimous decision victory for Lindland who won but was sloppy and obviously out of shape.

Mike Whitehead cut a lot of weight to make weight for his fight with Renato Sobral who once fought at 265 but now made it down to 205 pounds. The fight was fought in the standup but by the third round Whitehead went for takedowns but could never take down get Sobral down. The fight ends with Renato Sobral winning a unanimous decision.

The lightweights made their way next as the Black Superman Savant Young came in to face Mark Hominick. Although known for his standup skills Hominick was patient in the standup and than when the fight went to the ground he was able to get out of the guard with a great sweep and than he transitioned from triangle choke to arm to defeat Savant Young in the first round.

Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo already beat Josh “The Baby Faced Assassin” Barnett 7 years ago but that’s was a long time ago. Surprisingly Barnett came out with various kicks and by the second round Barnett found his mark and KO’ed Rizzo with huge left hook.

Big Ben Rothwell came into this fight as a big underdog against former UFC heavyweight champion The Pit Bull Andrei Arlovski. Both fighters came out throwing punches and each fighter left nothing in the tank as both fighters were fighting all out. Both fighters landed monster shots but by the end of the second round Arlovski had Rothwell in trouble. At the start of the third round Arlovski did not hold back and he landed a huge shot that KO’ed Rothwell. This fight will be a fight of the year candidate.

What everyone came to see, Fedor Emelianenko just needed 36 seconds to destroy Tim Sylvia. He came out and landed a huge over hand shot to Sylvia that sent to him to the ground. From there he landed a number of punches to Sylvia while in turtle position and than the Last Emperor took his back for a read naked choke. No one has every beaten Sylvia so badly and Fedor now cements himself as maybe the pound for pound best fighter in the world. Fedor now says he wants to fight Randy Couture, however Couture went the distance with Sylvia not 36 seconds.

In a night of great fight the Affliction event certainly made the UFC look pedestrian tonight.
